No...I'm not talking about the trade, I'm talking about everyone who just bashes this for no reason. Glen Rice is injury prone? Look at the games played in his career!!

Here's another question - why would the coach and GM of the Rockets make a trade to purposely hurt the team? If you say that they're not doing it on purpose but they just lack the insight that the BBS posters have, well you're silly...and you're a Baby Jordan fan!

I think it's good that people disagree with this trade. It keeps discussion open. What's aggravating is this:

People say stuff like it hurts our youth movement - but they want Antonio and Dale Davis

It hurts Griffin's development. First of all, why would Rudy and CD want to hurt their #1 picks development? He'll be 22 when Rice is gone! Yep - Griffin's DONE!!!!! We gave it a shot.....

We need a Center. Why? So we can throw Shaq around and show him who's boss? Shaq kicked Deke's ass in the finals.

Rudy and Co. have decided that the team will be a bunch of forwards that will run and gun ALL GAME LONG!! Catch us if you can!! They did the 'Dump down' in 95, they switched to 'ISO' in 2000, they're going to RUNRUNRUNRUNRUN in 2002. I'm sure the league will try and find some rule change to stop us from running TOO fast!

Anyway, if the trade becomes final, why not think about Wink and Cat cutting to the lane along with visions of them kicking it out to #41. God forbid we add a proven scorer!!

Do we need a 5? Yes! Will we get one....hang on!!! Be patient!

Here's one thing that is certain - Rudy, CD and Les WILL NOT make moves that will hurt the team...at least not on purpose! This move is made to HELP, not hurt!

    And here's my TAG!!!:D :p :D :p :D :p

Doc, would it at least be fair to say that trading for Rice is a judgment that Griffin is a year or two away from being an NBA starter?

Uh oh....I think we might have another long flurry of responses coming :D

But seriously, they wouldn't do this move if they didn't think it'd help the team. Rice isn't highly regarded for nothing. He may have lost a step, but when he was with the Lakers in their title season, he avg. 17ppg.

And plus, maybe he can help Eddie on his jumper?

Why pay 9 million per year to Rice when you could have paid Olajuwan that money for two years and actually fill a need on the court? This makes absolutely no sense for Rockets.

    Oh NO!!!

    The Doc has lost it.

Somebody from the Mavs, Spurs, or Jazz has paid an assassin to poison the Rox front office and alter their sane thinking processes. My $$$ is on that billionaire Cuban. He's got the big bucks to do it. It was probably that waiter at Pappadeaux who was the last agent in the plot. It's probably some biogenic contagion that Doc has also contracted thru his association w/ those who associate w/ CD + RT.

Our buddy needs help.....pls send in donations to Clutch for treatment administering b4 CD trades Franchise for Avery Johnson.

You have GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!!!!

And i thought our frontcourt was SOFT with Cato and Mo, and now we are going to add RICE of all people????????

At 9 freaking million per season???????????

What the heck is this!!! Looks like Hakeem leaving has made Rudy and CD lose their minds for good!!!!!

Why the HECK we are going to pay 27 million over 3 years for a cap albatross like Rice whose days of being the NBA's premier gunner are LONG PAST??????

Correct me if i'm wrong, but the Rice of today is nothing put a pale shadow of his glory days in Charlotte! He can't create his own shot, he is a completely one-dimensional player, and his 3pt fg% over the last seasons has been AVERAGE at best!!!!!!!

Who the heck is going to play defense on this squad? This team is just ASKING for the lottery with this line-up!

    I don't ****in believe THIS!!!!!!!!!

    Un-freakin-believable!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can see how the trade helps the Rockets. But there is a price to pay.

Wow....I just realized how "trained" I am to try and decypher Doc's posts--as opposed to just reading them.

His post seems straight forward, but I still can't help but think he's trying to tell us something......other than what's written.

I guess it doesn't help when he's defending a trade that quite frankly, doesn't make much sense to me.

I hope it works out for us if they pull the trigger on this trade. I hope they all have a picture of Rashard Lewis on their fridges though......it helps to realize you're not infallible.

There definitely seems to be another trade coming to couple this one. Any hint on this one?

Thanks for the scoop Doc !!!:D You really get our bbminds racing when we get info like this.

CD and Rudy are great at putting trades together that work best for their system. Any chance Our fella O is being reconsidered for the team?

    DR:

    Well said.

To maybe strengthen your argument a bit I have heard from the Northeast as late as less than an hour ago that this deal is done. Health concerns have been satisfied. We live with CD/RT/LA decision. Finished. Signed/sealed/etc ... from the Rockets point of view.

The only delay in announcement is just waiting for some of the other involved parties to sign up/finalize.

    But the point is ...

    1. CD/RT have made the decision already. It is over. Time to get on board.

    2. Because the Rockets portion of this trade is with ONLY the Knicks, and the Knicks have signed off on Rice already, and this deal is now NOT open to reversal as far as the Rockets are concerned. SA is gone time to start talking about our depth chart.

    3. Time to start looking at our other puzzle pieces. Wait until all the pieces are placed before ya'll start jumping off the Rudyball Run and gun wagon.

You just HAD to go and play the Harold Minor card, didn't you!? :D:p

I haven't said a word about this trade, which is rare for a motor mouth like me, and I'm not sure how I feel, but I would say it is a tad odd considering the other options. I'll take a wait and see attitude. Like the rest of the world, I'm "day to day."

I couldn't agree more Doc! I was shocked to wake up this morning, log into the BBS, and see the Rockets were close to acquiring Glen Rice, but the more I think about it the more I like it. I've said this in other threads, when there were people that said they didn't want Antonio Davis, or Marc Jackson or Raef LaFrentz because there were "Power Forwards". Well if that is the case, that means there aren't many "true" centers available, why not increase your OTHER strengths? Having a center isn't paramount to getting to the playoffs, or the Finals if you increase your other strengths. If you can't stop Shaq or Duncan, take to the Spurs and Lakers OTHER positions! Glen Rice is a go-to player, explosive, a pure shooter, and a fearless player. Rice will not be afraid to hit a big shot. The Rice of the last 2 years has had two problems, in 2000 he barely fit into the Lakers system, and most of the shots went to Kobe and Shaq, and they never truly tried to fit Rice in. Then Rice had that foot injury last year, and was on yet ANOTHER team that he didn't fit on. The Rockets is the perfect type of team for him. As long as he is healthy, he will fit. Am I happy about this trade? Not completely, only because I would have like the Rockets to pick up a serviceable big man, but in the end it is basically Shandon Anderson for Glen Rice. And Anderson is likely going to get a 4 or 5 year deal, so basically you would be paying big bucks to Shandon, who doesn't seem to fit in with the Rocks, and didn't seem to be happy here.

I think judging Rice on his play in LA and NY is not fair.........

in each case he was asked to play a style that he is not accustomed to and never really given the chance to play the way he played in Charlotte...........

In Houston, Rice will be given the opportunity to handle the ball at times but mostly be the spot up shooter that he really thrives at...........

I agree that the price tag is high, but I would much rather have Rice on the outside getting passes from Franchise and Mobley than Walt or Bullard...........

and we all know that Rudy doesn't like to start rookies, so why are we even talking about Griffin starting at the 3 ??????

with the addition of Rice the Rockets become dangerous now.......and 3 years from now when Rice is gone we will have Griffin playing more minutes after 3 years of learning the game from Rice...............

I like the idea of getting Glen Rice. He always finds a way of putting a dagger into a team, as he has done many times against the Rockets. He is still capable of having a 30 point game now and then, and at least the guy has a ring.

What bugs me is that the Rockets could have payed Hakeem more money, rather than taking on Rice's big contract. But I guess this is different, since they didn't actually sign Rice, just trade for him.

Lets face it. The Rockets weren't going to find a team willing to trade a big man for Shandon Anderson. At least they managed to get a solid player in return.

Does this mean that Eddie will be sent to the bench? Or will Rice play backup 3 and 2?

    Francis-Norris
    Mobley-Rice
    Griffin-Rice-Williams-Morris
    Taylor-Thomas-Bullard
    Cato-Hopefully someone like Pig Miller.

    IR: Langhi, Collier

    or

    Francis-Norris
    Mobley-Rice
    Rice-Griffin-Williams-Morris
    Taylor-Thomas-Griffin-Bullard
    Cato-Miller

    IR: Langhi, Collier

Which depth chart is more realistic?

    doc rocket,

    EGG-ZACT-LEE!

that is exactly what i've been saying.

i think many of the anti-trade coalition are too caught up in the "cap crap" and "position volition" to think about how the game is played on the court.

i'll repeat what i said a day ago: we are building a system that has never been seen before. so stop trying to apply historical logic to a charter system.

    look at our advantages:

    • 2 dominant guards
1 of, if not the BEST, midrange jumpshooting power forward
1 rookie that could have/should have been the #1 pick & may grow to be 3,4, or 5.
multiple shooters that haven't been consistent yet, or are one dimensional

    what will we add w/rice:

    • experience
      consistent outside shooting
      underrated post game
      relatively short contract

i still think there are some people who want to fight shaq with another shaq. that "other shaq" doesn't exist, though. who beat goliath???

you have to fight the opposing teams strengths with your own strengths. if those so happen to point directly at the oppositions' achilles...then lord have mercy!

i like this deal. i really do. and once we unearth the rebounder/shotblocker in the middle, we're championship contenders. bet on it.

and all we gave up was a non-shooting, wannabe starter, wannabe paid well, malcontent, overrated defender???? never mind how i feel about him. this deal is a slam dunk.

I agree with you 100% Doc. I love this trade. We get rid of Shandon who couldn't sink a jumper to save his life, and we get a pure shooter who can fill it up on any given night. Glen Rice has not been properly used the last two years. First Kobe and Shaq ran the show in LA, and he played behind Sprewell and Houston in NY.

He should get plenty more touches in the Rockets system, and will take the pressure off of Cuttino to shoot all the time. Initially, Cat will have a hard time dealing with a drop in ppg, but he'll learn to live with it.

If this trade goes through, THE ROCKETS WILL LEAD THE LEAGUE IN SCORING NEXT YEAR! We will also have one of the worst defenses in the league unfortunately. Oh well, I'll take Glen Rice over Shandon Anderson any day of the week. Here's to hoping Rice resurrects his career in H-Town! How much longer till the season starts anyways???

I think you made a really good post but I'm not sure about this statement. Are you thinking of Pat Riley? :)

Rudy started Dickerson, Mobley, Francis and Horry. Cassell played starters minutes only because "The Jet's" ( ) ego was too fragile to lose his starter's role.

Rudy plays people that help on the floor. I don't think it matters to him if he's a rookie or a vet.

Oh great. So now our philosophy to win is OUTSCORING the opposition?

GREAT idea. That has done wonders for Sacramento.

Welcome to the world of first round exits for the next year my friend, that is, IF we actually make the playoffs with this stupid approach.

I have just joined the Troll kingdom.

Count me in as a MAJOR basher from now on.

    It's a done deal.

Just WAIT when Rice starts b****ING ABOUT SHOTS! He didnt defer to Kobe and Shaq and you thing there's a freakin snowball chance in HELL he is going to defer to Cuttino and Steve? Or are we going to make him our 1st option???

    LAUGHABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!
