Cuban failed at his own protest.

Mr. Cuban loves to throw money at the NBA. I guess he can afford to be a sore loser, literally.

Was it ever explained why Cuban changed his protest from "Officials can't review the play after a flagrant-1" to "Dampier's actions did not warrant a technical"? It seems like he screwed himself.

It was fairly obvious they were going to reject it since we no longer play the Mavs this year. Making a flight, hotel, ticket sales, etc for 1 minute of basketball would be the epic of all fails.

    Great news.

BTW, has Battier filed an appeal to NBA on the T he got with Dirk's push?

I think Cuban's actual protest was that the officials could not USE the replay (which was improper) in order to assess a second technical foul on Dampier. I thought the basis of the protest was that Dampier was initially NOT assessed a technical, but that the officials later assessed the technical after looking at the replay (which, again, was improper).

The funny thing is, I'm not so sure the protest isn't upheld if the Rockets still had another game in Dallas this season. Or even if the Mavs were coming back to Houston. The logistics of having the Rockets travel to Dallas in order to play the final minute of that game would be a nightmare for the Rockets, the Mavericks and the league. Stern probably thought it just wasn't worth it.

Wow - I did a mental forehead slap after I read your post. You're right! That makes perfect sense.

Of course, logic would dictate that it not happen for the reasons you listed above...but sometimes logic doesn't always rule the day. I'm thankful that it did this time though - what a stupid thing to do otherwise, IMO.
