Isurance, fortunately, pays some of that back and unless T-Mac plays, he might be screwed out of next year. He could end up in an AI type situation.

I think it depends, if he is willing to give up about $4 million on this years contract to help the Rockets get under the Lux tax line then a possible buy out.

If not, then we try to play as nice as possible to retain any sign and trade possibilities in the offseason.

I would think that Les would want to explore this route.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if Morey went to McGrady with an ultimatum that they would only buy him out (with a savings to get the team under the tax threshold, of course) AFTER March 1, so he couldn't latch on with a contender.

Given that his only legitimate avenue to showcase his talents for a new contract is to play in NBA games, he may begrudgingly accept those terms and then sign with the Nets, Sixers or other similarly-situated team. That team sells some tickets to games that its fans would otherwise not want to see. McGrady gets to show that he's still an NBA player worth paying.

That's actually a really good point I hadn't considered but I have a feeling by February after talking with most of the teams in the league McGrady's agent might just advise his client to hold on to that $4mil because he won't make it up in the market in the summer of 2010. Who knows though - maybe McGrady wants to play bad enough that he will go rogue and take a deal like that...it would really help the Rockets out.

If he's still here after the deadline, we buy him out. I would have liked to have him play a full game one day, but the Rockets have made it clear that they will not do that. If they are not going to play him and a trade does not happen, the only benefit you can get is the money and the roster spot from the buyout.

He continues to work out with grover..Signs a one year deal with a team next season 100% healthy and probably with some of his explosivness back and then he will attempt to Make us pay

    I said Attempt.

I expect him to try to kill us next season for sure But i still hope he does well except againts us. one of my favorites to watch when healthy...too bad it didnt work out in houston

oh and to answer the question...We let his contract run out and try to sign and trade in the offseason if it looks like we wont get a good player in free agency

I'd rather let T-Slack's contract expires if we couldn't get a Star 2 and some young talents back.

Good ideas! I didn't think this way before. It could possibly work out for both parties

I was thinking the same. But, I think that's all the more reason why Morey will be sure to consummate a trade before the deadline. He still has to get under the luxury tax this season, and the least painful way to do that at this point is to take back a little less salary in a McGrady trade. If the Rockets have to give up a little extra in a trade to get under the tax threshold, I'm sure they'll be willing to do it.

Bring him back after the deadline. He will average 25/6/6 and be an MVP candidate. He will sign for the vet minimum over the summer citing his love of the game and the city of Houston. Yao will return and the dynasty will begin just a few years later than many expected.

    or

Let him sleep on Tim Grover's couch all season until his contract expires. At that time nobody will offer him more than 2-3 million on a one year deal. He will accept it and say "I will prove I can still be a force in this league" only to suck big time, see his playing time diminished and ultimately retire Steve Francis style.

I'm going with the second scenario but I had to throw the first one in in honor of our (mostly) departed TOF out there.

He's not going to help us in any way anymore. Adelman certainly wouldn't play him again after all the things that has happened recently.

You keep him 'til the season is over, then you try and see if you can find a sign and trade partner in hopes of getting an asset back. Small chance but if I'm DM I don't give up any chance to get assets.

Let him sit and rot till next season. He did this team no favors running his mouth. IMO he doesn't deserve to choose where he plays this season, so don't buy him out.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised to learn that if McGrady hasn't been moved, Morey and Adelman wouldn't sit down talk to McGrady, watch him practice and if he has actually progressed, let him back on the team.

Adelman's issue with McGrady was only that as he was during the month of December, he wasn't any good for the team, if he returns with the ability to play, I would be shocked if he wasn't played especially during the playoffs, where we will need scoring as many scoring weapons as possible.

The Rockets might take pity on him and buy him out (for the roster spot) before the March deadline. Yet, the only way I see us letting him rot away on the bench is A.) he isn't healthy and the Rockets are doing him a solid or B.) he is healthy, the Rockets asked him to return but he refused and they refused to buy him out, so he can go to another team.

Either way, if we can't trade him, I expect the team to be generous enough to offer him a chance to return. If he doesn't, then either he is hurt or being stubborn, but the Rockets wouldn't bench a player that could play for them in the playoffs.

Oh yes they would if that help would be in the selfish style of basketball he plays.

Tmac had his chance, he could have been playing here if he played his role, he wanted a bigger Tmac style role and the team thought that would hurt the team overall.

They were right....he is gone, dead and buried......let's hope the organization can get something of value out of this mess.

Otherwise he got paid $45 million over the last 2 years for basically nothing.

that is not true at all, tmac performed well in practices, his teammates said he looked good in practice, his coach said the same, it was his game conditioning and little kinks that would smooth with time, he didnt ask for more time, the media asked him a question, he said he is ready, but the team isn't and he was cool with that, he didn't make a statement, come out and demand more minutes.

those who dislike tmac are blowing his comments WAY out of proportion. morey simly said that they didn't like where he was at, and they wouldn't be able to extend his minutes atm so they sent him to chicago to continue training while they figured it out, then they sat down and made a final decision that he wouldn't be returning to houston so there was no point to risk chemistry (something i disagree with personally) this is why he is in chicago, not because he demanded minutes
