What's there not to believe? I want Yao out of our team for the following reason: - Yao misses significant time each season, which nullifies whatever talent he might bring - It is too easy for teams to take Yao out of the game during crucial times (just have someone front the dude) - He costs too much for someone that injury prone - He is still not aggressive enough
I know exactly how you feel. Yao's our franchise player, he isn't going anywhere while he keeps the money rolling in. But it seems that we may not need to build around him to be successful. If fact, building around his strengths might be foolish considering his history of injuries. Yao's the most talented center in the league, but I'd honestly prefer a younger, healthy center like Marc Gasol. Talent wins games, but health is everything.
+1. IMO, Yao shoudn't play more than 25 minutes/game. The reduced minutes would probably tremendouly decrease the stress in how low extremities and in the off chance of injuring himself. Of course, his salary would have to be reduced accordingly.

there's a lot of speculation here about what Morey would or wouldn't do. Ive read posters saying "he can't trade Ariza because he just got here and it would send a bad message to other FAs" or "he can't trade Carl because he's vastly outplaying his contract" etc. but Morey didn't caveat things in those ways. all he said is that he likes his team, but anyone can go if the right talent comes back. no exceptions. it seems really cold, but obviously it's true when your team has no true stars and you are looking to acquire one. By saying this, Morey is also making it clear to other GMs that nobody is off limits when discussing trades.
It is the Internet... like I care if he believes what I say or not... I never did like Yao, even if he is Chinese like me. He is simply too injury prone. Now if he was signed for $10-12 million I wouldn't care as much, but right now we are paying him $16 mil from our valuable cap space for someone who has failed to finish the season.
We can not get a lot by trading Yao. Teams won't trade for Yao unless they get Yao's commitment for the next 3-4 years. You have to have a decent team to keep Yao or it will be one year rental of Yao's service.
whatever you believe, calling names like "dumb troll" isn't a way to reason, but a way to insult both the player and yourself. I heard the most passionate Yao-haters are all Chinese. you prove it again.
LOL whatever man... Me calling Yao a dumb troll only hurts YOF and to be honest, I am perfectly happy making YOF butt hurt as they only care about Yao.
I think in Morey's mind...we do have players that are untouchable...but he's not going to go out and say it. "Player 1 and 2 are untouchable, but everyone else is up for grabs..." That, in my opinion, brings down team morale and players may end up not playing as hard.
I admit you are a Chinese, team-first, true Rockets fan. But a fan of whatever team should not insult a player like Yao who contributes all himself to the team with 100% heart and effort even if he is injury prone. You are just insulting yourself and team actually. What a shame!
Nothing to be read into it. While it is technically correct that "nobody is untouchable," this in no way means it would be easy for another team to "touch" one of the Rockets players. In fact, if reports are to be believed, Morey has high ceilings set as to what it would take for another team to touch one of his men.
The delicate problem with this trade season is that there are so many players to like on our current roster. These are the players I would not shed a tear over if they were traded: Cook Taylor Ariza (only because he hasn't been here long enough to become 'family' yet) Andersen (only because I think he would most likely be well-replaced by whoever comes in a trade package) Dorsey That's it. All the rest of them, it would be painful. How many GM's out there would lost to steal Bud from us? Or Scola, like we stole him from SA? Or Landry? Or even Lowry? Not to mention Brooks, Battier, even Hayes. To me, it's kind of like the Rashard Lewis thing in reverse. As good as Rashard has turned out to be, and with him being from here, it is generally regarded as a colossal failure not to have drafted the kid. Why? Because that combination of things would have made him *BELOVED* here. Absolutely BELOVED. Prior to this year, we didn't have a lot of guys who would fit that gategory, because of the dominance of the play by Mac and Yao. But what has happened this year is, these guys have all become greater than the sum of their parts, they have stepped up, every one of them, to become the epitome of a TEAM, each player distinct and valuable. You know that you are going to get something pretty good out of each of these guys on most nights, and while it sucks to be down two superstars, it has been a very refreshing and enjoyable thing to be able to watch these young players not only grow, but become very good, especially Carl, Brooks, Lowry and even Budinger. And because of that, most of these guys now fit that 'beloved' mold, which transcends mere stats, it touches the fans' hearts, and consequently, as many have stated, also affects the bottom-line $$ of the organization. How heartbreaking would it be to give away a Brooks or a Budinger, only to watch one or both of them become perennial All-Stars for the next decade? How much would it hurt to see Carl just killing teams wearing someone else's jersey? Yes, if we actually got someone who turned out to be better, and it vaulted this team up into the true upper-echelons, then fine. But this is what I am hoping Morey does not lose sight of - and he did say something to this effect, so I am hopeful - but if he is going to give up some of his now-valuable pieces, then we better get back absolute top-shelf talent AND fit as well, and not some mid-level dudes like Caron Butler or similar forgettable cast-offs who no one will remember in 5 years. I seriously don't want to see any of our guys not on the above list wearing anyone else's jersey for a long long time, if ever. Morey, take all those guys above and package them with Mac in a trade, I don't care. But please try to protect our great young nucleus.
We all know Yao isn't going anywhere.. but in case you want to speculate-- DD's recap indicated he was talking about the "current roster", which doesn't include Yao
Are you ashamed that you're Chinese or something? I personally don't know of any Chinese people, who feel the way you do. I guess, there are exceptions... like those African Americans who were against Obama during the election.
Actually, your calling Yao a "dumb troll" doesn't only bother YOFs. No one is a Landry-only-fan, but if some idiot proceeded to call him a "dumb troll," I'd think the majority of fans would be up in arms. There's a very apparent difference between pointing out Yao's weakness, or inefficiencies and calling him a "dumb troll."
