Landry wont be a free agent this summer. Rockets have a team option at like 3 million which is a deal the Rockets would not decline.
I really like Carl but I try not to over-value him. He is super-productive power forward who is undersized. Height isn't as big of an issue if he was a wing, but he's suppose to play like a big. If he had 3 more inches, I think the Rockets would seriously invest to mold him into a franchise player. That being said, I think the Rockets should still try their best to retain him for the future but if the right trade comes along, I'd still trade him for an all-star caliber player. On a side note, I don't think Yao is untouchable as well.
They complement each other very well. I do think 14-15m is too much though. Both of them are weak defenders, which leaves Chuck to do all the dirty work. Luis is getting older,so a 5 year deal is too much. 4 yrs with the last being a team option for 5 M would be all right, provided if we can also get a solid backup center. Andersen is not enough. That's going to be harder to obtain.
I agree. All Scola seems to do is flop when he's challenged by someone, and his man gets by him all the time. Carl is improving on defense, but he is nowhere near the level of Hayes or Battier.
A 5year $40M contract may keep Carl Landry! But i doubt Scola will still play in Houston next season, btw A.A. really SUCKS!
the fact is no one can promise yao to stay healthy even for one entire season. so find someone who can play C solidly is very very important for us.I do not like a C always prefer shooting 3p instead of pushing in the down low area.
They missed the playoffs right? In dreams case,we're talking about 1 season with a stretch of games and they missed the playoffs. The rox have a very high winning percentage without yao over the last few years. I guess if you want to say every teams best player is a franchise player, so be it. I personally think it gets tossed around too much and cause guys to get vastly overpaid.
I hate to break it to you two, but this comment is preposterous. Sure, the Rockets care about cap room this season. But the thing that Les Alexander--and pretty much every other NBA team owner--cares about is the LUXURY TAX. In the end, the luxury tax will probably prevent the Rockets from retaining all of Yao, [insert star player acquired via trade], Scola, Brooks, Landry, Lowry and Ariza for "as long as Morey wants them". Someone will have to be traded or not re-signed at some point. It's inevitable. That said, if the Rockets play their cards right and resist the temptation to take on a bunch of (non-star) salary in a McGrady trade, they will have a nice window where they can keep all those players (except with an MLE free agent instead of a "star").
We all know, Morey won't sign anyone over market value no matter who it is. He is perfectly comfortable letting players go out assess their market value and then offer them a fair deal. I think one of the problems here is everyone assumes our players will get offered some of the type of contracts that have been handed out to players in the past. The way I see the changing landscape of the league, no one is going to be lining up to hand out albatross contracts to any non-franchise type players. Basically in this economy moving forward you will see more deals like Landry than like Cato. If we resign all our players to what the "new economy" market value we will still have the money to go out and do whatever else we need to do....
Landry is not going to demand a huge contract, that's for sure. He's smart, he'll explore his options, but give Houston a first grab at him. If Houston fails to land him, then he's gone. Simple as that.
I'd like to think that. But he'll be unrestricted, so he won't owe any duty to the Rockets. If he decides that he'd like to take another team's money over the Rockets' money, he's gone.
Lets not forget DM already bent him over the last time he was a free agent. I highly doubt he is going to bend over again, but than again we may see value in Landry but other teams may see an undersized PF who couldn't start over Scola.
He didn't bend him over at all.....Landry got paid better than most everyone in his draft. He got a raise to $3 million a year in his 2nd year...that is great for him. DD
Last year I would have said Scola hands down. This year it's getting closer and you could argue you would rather have Landry over Scola. That is if it comes down to that. It's a tough decision that the Rockets would have to make if it comes down to that.
