The album with Ray Price and Willie Nelson was pretty strong with several good cuts. You Never Even Called Me By My Name Written By Steve Goodman Recorded By David Allan Coe Merle Haggard Mango
"Rainbow Stew" - Merle Haggard When we find out how to burn water and the gasoline car is gone When the airplane flies without any fuel and the sunlight heats our homes One of these days when the air clears up and the sun comes shining through We'll all be drinking that free bubble-up Eatin' that rainbow stew WHO CAN POST THE NEXT VERSE??? ........ When the president goes through the White House doors and does what he says he'll do....
Okay, okay... My wife would kill me if I didn't say that just about everything from George Strait is excellent... I do agree that he seems to always record the perfect length song... he doesn't over kill the chorus and sing four bridges. Also, we both like "Shameless" by Garth Brooks. Garth mostly makes us sick, but that song had some "our song" value to it while we were dating. Selena's "I could Fall In Love" is the official "our song" but that's a pop song recorded by a tejano cross-over artist... and that's another possibly all too sad thread topic.... may she RIP (Selena that is)
For starters, it does not have a "country" beat to it. The lyrics could be *construed* as a country song, but it is the music that is not country. When I think of a country song, I don't think of a song that has drums that you would hear in the West Indies. "Margaritaville" is more of a folk-rock song with a West Indies flair to it than anything else.
"Drop Kick Me Jesus Through The Goal Post Of Life" - Bobby Bare Drop kick me Jesus through the goal post of life End over end neither left nor to right Straight kick through the heart of them righteous uprights Drop kick me Jesus through the goal post of life. Make me, oh make me, Lord more than I am Make me a piece in your master game plan Free from the earthly temptation below I've got the will, Lord if you've got the toe. Drop kick me Jesus through the goal post of life End over end neither left nor to right Straight kick through the heart of them righteous uprights Drop kick me Jesus through the goal post of life. Take all the brothers who've gone on before And all of the sisters who've knocked on your door All the departed dear loved ones of mine Stick'em up front in the offensive line. Drop kick me Jesus through the goal post of life End over end neither left nor to right Straight kick through the heart of them righteous uprights Drop kick me Jesus through the goal post of life. Yeah, Drop kick me Jesus through the goal post of life End over end neither left nor to right Straight kick through the heart of them righteous uprights Drop kick me Jesus through the goal post of life.
I think Margaritaville can be classified as country. Anyone heard the Alan Jackson version of Margaritaville (with Jimmy Buffet)? I used to think something was either country music or it wasn't; I now believe that country is a lot like rock--there are many varieties under the broad heading. Just think: Alan Jackson, Junior Brown, Rodney Crowell, Steve Earl. Anything alike? No. Same thing goes for Rush, U2, The Beatles, and The Smithereens.
