I know the exact article you read, I think its from the Oregon Times. I know Moiso said he didn't think he could get any better in college so he's declaring, and the writer exaggerated his words into Moiso was scared that he couldn't get better so he's going to declare. Something writers do commonly. To clear up the misconception, the true reason Moiso declared is he thought he was ready for the NBA. Remember the Iowa St/UCLA game in the tourney? Well Fizer was suppose to be a top pick in the draft, and Moiso thought he did well against him, and therefore from that, he's thinks he's ready for the NBA. ------------------ Check out the new and improved Draftsource.net
So Will, Do I get an assist for Wrath coming out of "Lurk Mode" in the "Vet of 10+ drafts" thread? Doesn't that improve my posting efficiency? I still have a lot of work to do on lowering my technical fouls and charges that take people out. [This message has been edited by heypartner (edited June 07, 2000).]
heypartner, Why are you suddenly concerned about the techs? Every player here has their own style of posting and for you to change your game to be a Trent Tucker that would never mix it up with anybody on this BBS would seem strange. Wow -- my first day and I'm already in a tit-for-tat and I've had Clutch agree with something I said ... I may never lurk again MManal -- You got me. I was exaggerating a bit to make my point about Moiso being raw. In fact, what does impress me about him (and what I meant by the soft hands comment) is his ability to hit the 5-8 footer in traffic. Sounds easy, but not every 6'10" big man can do that. Having said that, in the times I've seen Moiso play, he seems to get a Cato-like proportion of buckets from drive and kick dunks that have more to do with Earl Watson or Baron Davis drawing his defender than anything Moiso does. My big problem is still his (and every UCLA player since Edney and O'Bannon) fire. I saw Cal storm back in the second half at Pauley last year, and nobody on that team seemed to care that they were getting embarassed on their court -- but that's another thread ... It just goes to show how thin this draft is. I would have hoped to have someone more polished since we're finally in the lottery. But I still wouldn't have traded it for beating the crap out of playoff teams that last month! ------------------
I actually have watched Moiso play some, and I agree there is no comparison between his offensive moves and Cato's. He can actually break a defender down. What are the possibilities of trading the 9th pick (with a veteran?) for 2 lower 1st round picks to pick up Harvey (whom I like what I read about..6'8", defends, rebounds, hustles) and maybe a project like Stevenson or Hightower? Someone has to fall. Twenty players can't be drafted in the 1st 10 picks. Ouch. That hurt figuring that out. ------------------
The main reason these Garnett/Wallace opinions are coming, is because like them, Moiso is a really long, tall player, that has the ability to play all 3 front court positions (with a little more work, he'll have 20 foot range, he's got the touch for it.) Moiso's got a soft touch, and might be good for a pick and roll that you desire HP. Now, on his defense. You have to have the desire from the beginning? Tell that to Kobe. Kobe just now became a good defensive player, from being a liability. Part of it is having the physical tools, which Moiso certainly does. As many have said on Miles, you can teach a guy to shoot, but you can't teach them height, or that type of athleticism. Same holds true here, Moiso has an NBA capable body, with a little weight work, which shouldn't be a problem. He's not gonna win defensive POY any time soon, but he WILL be better than KT on defense, for the mere fact he can block shots MUCH better, and rebound as well, if not better. Other points-Moiso would make a nice big man off the bench too....I think it'd depend on how Rudy wanted things, if he were to draft Moiso. Let's not pass Baron judgements yet. He hasn't gotten much of a chance in Charlotte (who was INSANE for passing on Odom anyway). He won't be (at least I doubt it) as good as the Franchise is, but how many are? ------------------ Rockets fans wanted at hoopsboards.com Draft Chat, NBA Chat, Team Chat, and more!
