Yeah, conscription in an army that specializes in human wave attacks... not exactly a "benefit".

Let me rephrase, exactly how many Jewish officers. Also, you conveniently ignore the question of Jews in government service.

    1) It wasn't just any guy. We all agree that he was a radical Muslim who, technically, should be considered to not be within the folds of Islam for something like this. Moderate Islam condemns these actions. I can point you to many of our well known and revered scholars of this time who have repeatedly condemned such acts of violence. You seem to be the kind of person who does not do their research and jumps to conclusions by taking things out of context. Typical White America.

    2) It wasn't any cartoon. How would you or anyone feel if somebody drew vulgar pictures of your mother and posted it in a national newspaper because they were practicing freedom of speech/press and thought it was funny? If you say you would "just ignore it" (If you are offended, it is fairly simple, just ignore it......) then I feel sorry for you and I have absolutely no respect for you. I would get angry and try to confront the person naturally(but not get violent since I am moderate). So imagine how a crazy radical would feel if you were to diss his Prophet, a person who is more loved and respected than our own mothers. I am not siding with this guy in any way, but you got to understand that Islam is a beautiful religion which teaches us the perfect way of life. Unfortunately, it is not understood/implemented/acted upon in the manner it's meant to be by Muslims and non Muslims alike. So don't blame the car, blame the driver.

    Good day.

You obviously have never left your little ranch in Texas and been to other parts of the world have you?

Islam is one religion with one book, the Quran. There is no such thing as radical Islam. There are people who make Islam to be extreme to get what they want, which is wrong. You sir, have gone from being pathetic to extremely shallow.

And Gitmo Bay isn't barbaric? What about the incidents in the prisons of Iraq where detainees were stripped naked and piled onto each other and forced into positions of sexuality? Shall I point out more instances of where Iraqi women and young girls (people that have nothing to do with the war, just innocent bystanders) are raped by our US army on the street sides? Shall I post pictures with NSFW tags to show you proof?

Hahahaha! Rather than asking you to show me proof of this absurd claim, because I know you can't, I will show you plenty of videos of proof of non Muslims who converted to Islam and their reasonings behind it (which is not at all what you calim). I will need some time to compile them.

And please show me these "rules" you speak of on our Prophet?

I was going to reply to you by looking up the percentage of growth of Muslims in the U.S. (people who convert) to show you that when "people have a freedom of choice" they still convert to Islam at a very high percentage, but what's the point when your already getting pwnd by so many people in this thread?

Way to try to argue against one stereotype by perpetuating another.

I am going to stick to basketball, because religion is just too touchy a subject.

Suffice it to say regarding Islam that I respect anyone that converted willingly and is peaceful.

    I don't believe, but I respect..each person's right to belief.

Anyway, to each his own.......just don't try to kill people for making a cartoon.......

if you've seen the cartoons...they are in fact pretty offensive. But violence in response to this is the best thing the cartoonist could hope for.

Its like the boy at skill that provokes you to do something to get you in trouble. You are just proving the cartoonist right by all the protesting. Turn your cheek and ignor the scum.

There is no accurate number because there is only roughly 30,000 Jews in Iran. How many of those were conscripts and then left military service? How many are disqualified from service because of age, physical limitations, etc? Also, conscripts in Iran are paid among the lowest of all the armies that have mandatory conscription.

Jews in Iran also get to vote exclusively for there member of parliament, as well as take part in the normal electoral process. As much as you love to complain for them, it's obvious you will only see a handful of Iranian Jews agreeing with you:

    I agree with this.

There are too many idiots who take freedom of expression too far, but shrug the world isn't perfect.

And yet, there were 100,000-150,000 Jews in 1948.

    That doesn't tell you anything?

Reread the story. Switch Jew for Muslim and vice versa. Honestly do this and tell me that these Muslim Iranians would be "equal". Try to do it with a straight face.

This is the classic "happy negro" story, told by white plantation owners. It is easy to believe it if you really want to.

Quite frankly, I wouldn't shed a tear for either of them. They're both scum.

It's also disgusting to me that there are people protecting the Danish cartoonist. I am strongly for spreading freedom of speech and this Danish cartoonist is my enemy in that regard. His actions make him undeserving of the right to speak freely since he has no respect for the value of the right and/or isn't responsible with it. He sets a horriffic example for all the opressed Arab youth - is this freedom of speech? Some ass-backwards figure in the Middle East will quickly turn into "you see why we have to control your freedom of speech?". Ugh.

Also, if this guy didn't think his cartoons would bring the loonies out in scores, he's delusional. I wish I could throw him along with all the psychos in one room and see them all exit the gene pool.

Years later, I can't get over what a douchebag the cartoonist is. Not only spitting on his right to speak freely, but also creating unneeded tension between Muslims and Non-Muslims. For what? Just cause he can? Because he doesn't give a damn about the consequences and wants to make some more cash?

The idiot ruined his own life. He'll live in terror forevor because he will quickly discover that there are over a billion Muslims and if 0.01% of them are psychotic and want him dead, that's 1,000,000 people.

I hate that this guy made it easier for the corrupt brain washers in the Middle East to turn good people into terrorists.

I cant fathom how anyone who values freedom of speech would be supportive of this guy. He is trashing something which we all need to cherish and protect.

I wouldn't be too worried about them. They moved to greener pastures apparently.

    Also, regarding this:

Ottomaton: How many wealthy Jews are there in Iran? How many Iranian Jews in the military, or government, much less the IRGC? How many of the choice IRGC government contracts that cover most of the economy go to Jews? If you are an Iranian Jew and you wish to be relevant beyond your own little Ghettoized community, you convert.

How many wealthy Jews does there have to be for it to be considered ok?

Iran is a country of 70 million people and you're talking about a minority of 30,000. Numbers-wise, there won't be many succesful ones - just as is the case for the rest of Iran. Unless I'm missing something..

Even if there is a smaller PERCENTAGE of wealthy Jews in Iran than there are wealthy Iranians in Iran - it means nothing. It may be more, it may be less. If it's less, that's not necessarily any kind of indicator unless it can be shown that it is not coincidence. A highly likely coincidence mind you because Iranian Jews, historically, are not very wealthy.

You are right, and you are wrong. You can't blame Ford if a drunk runs over an old lady but you can't help and acknowledge a trend if all drunks are driving Ford Trucks.

Islam is a breeding ground for political extremism, and although this is, by definition, an extreme and not to be representative of the middle of spectrum, one must acknowledge that this type of violence is almost exclusively from underdeveloped middle eastern nation-states. Many of these states diffuse blame for their own mishandling of natural and political capital by refocusing the blame externally, and in the past 3 decades that has typically meant the U.S. It is past time for Moderate Islam to take their religion back, and unfortunately in this era, that essentially means taking drastic political actions to take their nations back from clerical regimes and religious rhetoric, more than it means simply condemning extremist behavior.

It's not right to label DD as an Islam hater, he can get sketchy with the choice of words and context that may be taken in the wrong way by Muslims, but his point is very clear. What DD is saying is usually right... extremists are a problem and they carry out their actions in the name of Islam, which is the sad reality. The radical followers of Islam are very much a minority but their actions speak very loud. It is absolutely unacceptable to kill someone over a drawing, no matter how offensive. Sometimes these people just take their religion too seriously. I just hate how these radicals portray Islam in the wrong way. It affects the rest of the muslim world in a negative sense.

It's sad really. The vast majority of muslims are moderate and peaceful...just go visit any mosque in whatever city you live in. I'm muslim btw.

Then you don't understand the concept of freedom. We support this guy like we support the right of the KKK to spew hateful bullcrap. The government shouldn't be in the business of determining who has the freedom to say something based on how popular or unpopular that point of view might be to the public.

This whole situation is about a backwards ass group of people within Islam that have lost their god damn minds. Instead of organizing to get this man fired from his job and outcast from his profession... there are people trying to KILL the b*stard with an AXE. Are you KIDDING me?

The claim was that they were absolutely equal, and that there would be no reason for a Jew to be considered inferior to a Muslim in Iran. If that is the case, they should be indistinguishable from the population. The % of wealthy Jews should equal the % of wealthy Muslims. And if a Jew wanted to join the Revolutionary Guards and have a career protecting their country, they should be welcomed with open arms. Maybe if a Muslim would be killed for apostay for converting to Judiasm, then a Jew would be killed for converting to Islam, etc. etc.

If these conditions aren't the case, then calling them equals is like saying your pet dog is your equal. You may love it. You may feed it the best kibble and brush it's coat for 2 hours every night. But functionally, it is still not your equal. All it has to do is pee on your rug for you to change your mind and take it to the SPCA.

And that's fine. It is the Islamic Republic. But if that is the case, don't insult them by saying how equal they are. They are tolerated on suffrage of the Supreme Leader or some other capricious power. The house Negros in the South used to say, "Yessa massa, I is good!" whenever anybody asked. Watch Cabin in the Sky and then read all the quotes from Southerners talking about how the 'Negro' loved "seperate but equal".

Why is it that every single article even remotely related to Islam has Ottomaton and DaDakota mindlessly bashing everything about the religion?? We get it boys, you don't like the religion. Stay on topic. Both the cartoonist and the would be murderer are assholes. Anyone who willingly does controversial things for publicity or just for the sake of being a dick deserves to be bashed. Also, anyone who tries to murder another human being deserves to be bashed. They're both equally big assholes.

What the cartoonist did is not even remotely comparible to what the attacker did.

A life is not equal to a stupid cartoon.....

And in a free speech society, people have the RIGHT to speak their mind or make a cartoon, even if it is uber offensive to someone else.

That is what freedom of speech is sort of all about.

I agree with you. Anyone can say what they want. But they live with the consequences of it and they must be held responsible. Freedom of speech means I can cuss out someone's mother - does that mean I should? Do I get mad if someone punches me in the face for it? Am I shocked if it so happens that I was speaking to a mentally unstable dude and he pulls an axe on me for cussing his mother out?

No, no and no. Just because it is a right, doesn't mean you abuse it. The guy has every right to make the cartoon. He also deserves everything he is getting because, well, he should've known. As for the axeman, I'm sure he'll get what he deserves as well. Your freedom of speech may allow you to make death threats to the President, but you will be punished for overstepping your boundaries.

    See classic video here:
    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/6bVa6jn4rpE&hl=en_GB&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/6bVa6jn4rpE&hl=en_GB&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

I don't understand why it is odd to anyone that there are maniacs like this guy who associate themselves with Islam. It is normal, average, and expected. Even unavoidable. Right now, Muslims are trying to break through a brick wall - but it is impossible at the moment due to the low levels of literacy, living conditions, and confidence in predominantly Muslim countries. Nevermind that the people responsible for ass-backwardness are raking in the cash everyday.

No one is supporting the axeman buddy. I'm just saying, you'd have to be an idiot to be surprised by it.
