I know I'm throwing all of you for a loop (no pun intended) after that Hip-Hop thread... But which single guitar solo would you select out of all history as the one solo you wish you could play, or have tried to play as it was recorded? This is the one you just absolutely love the most. This is obscure, but my favorite guitar solo is of Stryper's "Against The Law" album on the song "All For One"... Pure '80's genius... driving, melodic, multi-tempo, single to duet, sweet (literally) and solid... and Oz Fox is the man. Too many honorable mentions to mention with SRV, Jimi, and countless other blues riffs and glam rock bridges out there!
I hate to be cliche, but my two favorite are awfully predictable: 1. Page's solo in Stairway 2. Jimi's solo in his cover of "Along the Watchtower"
My favorites are: "We Will Rock You" -- Brian May. "Your Gold Teeth II" -- Denny Dias "Black Coffee In Bed" -- ?? "Hideaway" -- Eric Clapton Queen, Steely Dan, Squeeze, Bluesbreakers. Blues is an entirely different story. Those things you can't judge.
There are too many to name for me. I could say every Pantera song because Dimebag Darrell is so amazing and the same with airo.T of Sepultura. However, I will just say "Crazy Train" by Randy Rhoads and leave it at that for now.
"The Sultans of Swing" has a good one. "Hotel California" does too. "November Rain" by Guns'n'Roses is pretty awesome. I have to go with "Comfortably Numb" by Pink Floyd as best ever, though. I love guitar solos.
Too many come to mind, but two in particular: Eagles Hotel California ending...I think it's Joe Walsh doing the solo. Pink Floyd Another Brick in the Wall ending, with David Gilmour.
There are too many for me to name as well. I would say the late great Stuart Adamson from Big Country in the 'Storm' Joey Santiago had some real classics on numerous Pixies songs.
Jimi Hendrix-"Machine Gun" on the Band of Gypsies Album/CD. It was recorded live at the Fillmore East on December 31st 1969.
Good one Old School, most people don't realize the guitar genius on that track... BTW that was the guitar sample on Public Enemy's song "Welcome to the Terrordome" from the "Fear of A Black Planet" album. These are all great picks... isn't it interesting how many songs are really all time greats? Of course when you weigh them against the balance of the all time crap, you see that the good stuff is really taken for granted.
Fade to Black - Kirk Hammet Always with me, Always with you - Joe Satriani This has been mentioned, but: Comfortably Numb - David Gilmour
