Definitely not Philly's number one. They know, and we know, that they are in the John Wall sweepstakes.
From a Hollinger chat a couple days ago: Some idiot asks the following question: Adam (Philly): Iguodala and Dalembert for T-mac and a 1st round pick. who says no? John Hollinger: Seriously Philly people, stop it with the Dalembert for TMac trades. Nobody wants him, you've been trying to unload him for the last 18 months. Then later on down the list someone writes: Sam (University of Windsor): We need a rebounder/shot blocker to make up for our lack of athleticism. And by "we", I mean my intramural team. Any chance we can land Dalembert for my buddy Rick, and 2 used Calculus textbooks? Who says no? John Hollinger: This is more realistic scenario than several of the ones I've seen proposed. I know some scouts who think Rick would make a great waterboy.
I feel like most of the other posters, why would we trade T-Mac for just Dalembert? I think it would be a great deal, if they included a #1 draft pick, it doesn't necessarily have to be Thaddeus Young or Andre Iguodala. Why would do SD for just T-Mac? How does that deal help Houston, they must think we are like the Memphis Grizzlies or something? T-Mac is still pretty productive player, when healthy and has shown at times that he can still score and be offense for a struggling team. AI/T-Mac is creates an overload at guard, and you still have Andre Igodala, what are you supposed to do with all of those scoring guards? For Iguodala, I'd throw in Trevor Ariza with T-Mac and take that deal. Then, I'd almost take Dalembert. Ariza is the one I would put on the block, but I guess he is still developing ...
that doesn't answer my question of WHY people feel that way about a legit size center who averages 8 rebounds and 2 blocks with 47%fg and 81%ft. again, i know he's over paid but its just for the next year.
arenas is the face of the franchise. there's no question about that. he was offered to get out of his long term deal, then iggy can be available too. in this market, with this free agent pool coming up, cap relief is at an all time premium.
because his stats are misleading. For a center 47% Fg isn't really great, for a perimeter player it would be. A center, especially one who isnt an oeffensive threat and should be mainly getting putbacks and dunks should be around 50% or higher. His rebounds and blocks are solid, but when he used to play 10 more minutes a game he only grabbed 2 more rebs and about same number of blocks...so he tends to come in and start well and then fades away. He had a solid year two years ago, but has been inconsistent since. He gets benched when he's not doing well or plays very limited minutes, which makes his average stats look better than they would be. He also has his games where he plays big minutes and is non-existant. It may onlybe one year, but again, hed be the centerpiece of a philly offer and morey wants a young talent to be the centerpiece, so they can keep him and help him grow, not a dalembert who's reached his ceiling and may leave in a year.
Well obviously we don't want to trade just to acquire Sammy, but him as poison to get a different asset (pick, iggy, speights, etc) isnt bad at all imo.
Did you guys know Dalembert was booted off of the Canadian national team for being a complete selfish ball hog and not following the coach's orders.
Due to the contract, you'd much rather take back Dalembert in an Iguodala trade, but Brand would be a far better option at center this year. Dalembert just looks like a slug on the floor now.
Yes, the only way I would swallow Dalembert's contract is getting either an unprotected 1st or Igoudala. If we trade McGrady for a bad contract without getting at least a chance to get an all-star level player, we might as well just let him walk after the season.
Brand is a better player but a much worse contract than Dalembert. So it's a pick your poison thing. But if we get Brand, we probably have to trade either Scola or Landry or we would have a very crowded PF spot.
Brand would be a deal killer. He can't stay healthy plus he is redundant to a position of strength for the Rockets. His contract lasts far too long. Dalembert would feel a position of need even though his contract is outrageous however it expires after next season if he is willing to take a more appropriate contract or let him walk.
Spot on. He fills a void for this season and after this season eh backs up yao. If it doesn't work out, he is gone and we can rebuild. If you don't win this year or the next the Yao experiment is as dead as the McGrady one.
What's a trip is that a few years back I would have killed to get Elton. How the mighty have fallen, and how freakin' great it is to have two guys, plus Hayes, filling the 4 spot that I love watching. That position was a nightmare for us for so long. We'd have to get something good to take on Dalembert's contract.
Iguodala isn't even being offered, so why is everyone so excited about him? Have you seen him play? He's a ball hog and not a great shooter. Not great at attacking the basket either. Philly's record reflects this. I can't believe so many fools would be willing to give up on Aaron Brooks so soon either. Pathetic that you would even call yourselves fans!
You can't be serious? Are you willing to lose TWO of our promising young player, one nearly a star in the league in AB? I thought we learned a lesson over 10 years ago when we mortgage our youth for an over-the-hill superstar in Barkley.
So in a down year at 43% shooting with only 15+ attempts a game is bad? Also his assist is not bad for a 2 guard? But then again I haven't seen a lot of 76ers games.. Can anybody fill me in on his current game play?
