Ranking the choices: Iggy + Dalembert (1); + Kapono (distant 2); and + Brand (3). It pains me to say it, but Dalembert is the only pairing that makes sense. Then again, I would much rather have Thadeus Young over Iggy but the contracts really get hard to match.
slow and steady will win this race. Expect offers like this to pop up as time goes by. As each week passes, more teams will realize starting over is the best thing to do. The trading of #3 has always been about the contract for other teams, not the player.
I never thought Iggy was a possibility. If he's available, he's probably the best player we could get. I really don't think Philly would put him on the block, though. The guy is young and too productive.
Everyone has to remeber that we are not desperate, but the Sixers probably are. With that said, I would take Iggy+Dalembert for Tmac. The only way I take Iggy+Brand is if they add their 1st rd pick.<p>This will be a good deal because we are not signing an allstar next year, and Iggy 2nd tier and may be the best option for us. To me a Iggy and Dalembert is a no-brainer. Plus Dalembert is an expiring next year and could be an expensive, but good backup to Yao.
A great backup to Yao. We need to keep Yao's minutes in check this year so he can play in the playoffs. Dale and Andersen backing him up would be amazing. We could really rest Yao a couple weeks here and there and wont be bad off sicne we have a Dalembert, who could be a starting center on many teams.
How about Iggy + Brand + unprotected 1st rounder for TMac + Scola? Brand is a bad contract, but not a bad player even at this stage of his career. He and Scola have very similar production.
It has to be Brand here guys. Anything less, and Philly won't touch it. What do you guys think about this? Maybe a pick or 2 going to Portland as well, we know they love draft picks... If we take on Iggy, we can kiss the 2010 FA goodbye anyway, so I think that makes it easier to take on Brand. He'd also be a nice fill-in this year at center if he can stay on the floor.
Because he cannot carry the team. He is a great 2nd or 3rd option on a contender but cannot lead a team being a 1st option and the sixers know this. They are playing horribly and have very bad contracts that only McGrady's contract could help salvage if they want to be competitive in the near future.
Because he will continue to get older and they will not be able to take advantage of his formidable years by winning anything. So, they dump him to get younger, and try to build around another core group of players. DD
So if I understand this correctly, this guy starts off the article detailing how the 76ers have ended up in such a sorry state mainly due to bad personnel moves - particularly the taking on of aging veteran players with big contracts. He then follows up with a suggestion for making yet another bad move: taking on a broken down Tmac (& his enormous salary+ego). And this is supposed to help make them better? This makes absolutely no sense at all yet folks here have jumped on this as if it's gospel.
His contract ends after this season. They get him for his contract. If he fits their system and plays realy well they may get him cheaper. If not, they let him go, draft well and sign some young free agents.
They're trading for T-Mac's contract, not T-Mac. If they dump salary and maybe pickup a young asset or 2, they can rebuild.
Money. Iggy's a stud, but what's the point of having a great player on a big contract if you can't sell tickets? Philly's among the league's worst in terms of attendance and record. Dumping him, along with a big contract, couldn't possibly make the team that much worse. And it'll save them a bunch of money. That's the writer's opinion. I don't think they should trade Iggy.
I think you would agree that they have a gaping hole at C now with Pryz and Oden out for the season and a glut at the PG. Nobody knows the long term prognosis for Pryz and Oden. Miller isn't the right fit for that team and they would be happy lose that 3rd year on his contract. Dalembert only has one more year left on his deal. Outlaw doesn't make sense to re-sign with all their young talent expecting raises. Plus, they probably pickup a couple picks in this deal.
Is this guy really suggesting Iggy and Marreese Speights? I'd jump all over that. Throw in Dalembert to make salaries match. I'd give throw in Scola to get that deal done.
I would be all over that as well. However, I doubt Philly gives up that much talent for an expiring contract.
