If deal comes Miller + Salmons + @, Whom do you guys prefer for @, Hinrich or J.James(expiring deal)??
Thanks OP for the realistic though a little depressing list of trade possibilities. Of the list, I think the following are the ones both teams would be interested in doing. (Took out GSW because recent news reports that they're not interested in McGrady.) NOH - Peja + West or Okafor. (probably a reach) MIL - Redd + Gadzuric IND - Murphey + Dunleavy CHA - Chandler + Diop SAC - Kevin Martin + Kenny Thomas Of the above five offers, I'd seriously consider the Hornets if West/Okafor were involved, and the Kings if Martin is truly healthy. The other three involve players with serious injury issues so it would require more research. But if these are the actual offers out there, it might really be better to just let McGrady's contract expire and add a player in the 8 to 10 million range in the summer.
Indians has the best trade asset to offer, their 2010 first round pick. Cavs are also interested in Murphy. So Rockets might be able to flip him for Big Z's expiring contract. Then there's Kings who are looking for a big man too and has Kenny Thomas's expiring contract.
Indiana might not want to give up that 1st rounder. They are in financial trouble, but Bird isn't likely to do that.
I would think the following trade would be good for both teams: Orlando gets: TMAC and Trevor Houston gets: Lewis and Gortat Reasoning for Orlando: Orlando does this to get out of Lewis' contract. Also, Trevor can do everything Lewis is required to do---for the Magic. They have plenty of offense, they just need a spot up shooter to spread the floor and a get a much better defender. Trevor 3pt percentage would increase drastically in their system. Also, Bass can more that cover backup center for spot minutes for them--so Gortat is not a necessity. If for some reason Howard goes down for along period of time, they don't really have a real chance in the playoffs anyway. Also, (someone can confirm this) but with TMAC's expiring--the Magic may be able to sign one of the big free agents this summer? Who would not want to join the Magic with D. Howard? Reasoning for Rockets: Duh!
It doesn't have anything to do with who is better. It's a different position. Same as if I listed Michael Jordan as a PG. He's definitely better than Chris Paul, but still irrelevant to this particular point.
Due to their financial woes, West seems to be available. I would be willing to trade Scola plus T-Mac for West + Peja + whatnot, but with no draft picks thrown in. For CP3... If they would ever be willing... that's a different story. I can live with giving up AB + Landry + CBud + 2 1st rounders if it's what it takes. CPaul may very well be the best point guard of this decade. If we still wanted to win the Yao era... Then we must gamble.
Incoming Players Peja Stojakovic 6-9 SF / SG from Serbia-Montenegro (Foreign) 11.7 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 1.3 apg in 29.1 minutes Emeka Okafor 6-10 PF / C from Connecticut 10.8 ppg, 9.8 rpg, 0.5 apg in 29.4 minutes Outgoing Players Tracy McGrady 6-8 SG / SF from Mount Zion Christian Academy (HS) 3.2 ppg, 0.8 rpg, 1.0 apg in 7.6 minutes David Andersen 0-0 from 6.1 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 0.8 apg in 14.8 minutes Makes since for both teams. This allows NO to get under the salary cap and keep their best big man (West). Anderson gives them a decent bigman to replace Okafor at a bargain price. We get a young talented big in Okafor that can actually defend the bigger opposing post players that kill our current frontcourt. Peja Stojakovic gives another sharpshooter of the bench that knows Adelmans system well. This also gives us a deep rotation at each level. C/PF Hayes Okafor Scola Landry SF/SG Ariza Battier Budinger Stojakovic PG Brooks Lowrey
Can't break everything just to get CP3. Replacements for Landry,AB,and C-Bud will be needed. Throwing two 1st rounders on top of that will make things worse.
I say we lay in the weeds and go after Paul or Bosh if they become available. We will need Tracy to make those deals work (in terms of cap space matching) Other teams garbage or expirings are not that attractive.
Role players are easy to find, its the stars that are hard to get, so even if we do trade away half the team (which we won't) for CP3/Bosh (Which they won't allow) we will lose our role players, but have someone young and legit to build around...
As much as I like Hinrich, I think the Lowry-Brooks tandem is doing far too well, and at 60% of his salary, to take his long term contract on. Miller-James-Salmons would be a very good scenario for us. See, when you can say "Duh!" for the Rockets, it probably means it's lopsided. A top 3 team in the league with championship aspirations isn't going to just water their team down and give up. Even with Orlando's money issues. They decided to spend money to make money, and this would abandon all of that when their tactic has been working (Finals last June, revenue sales up). And that's without mentioning that McGrady is still detested in that greater area.
What about the 1st rd pick? I knew i could bring u out with another trade of scola. I said i didnt want to do it, but i see no way someone is going to take mcgrady with getting landry, scola,or brooks. When i said its to get carl minutes, i would like to see how he plays playing 35mins a night. Battie/Najera can back up those other 13mins depending on the matchup and boone and hayes can man the center spot along with anderson. I actually think with boone on the floor, anderson can play some 4 also. Like i said, its not a great deal on the surface, but combined with another deal with those players can make it look really good. Also getting that draft pick next year could be pretty good also.
