From what I've heard. James Cameron took out a chunk of stuff just in case they decided to do a sequal which was a right choice. There's no way they can fit all that scriptment into one movie.

I hope he do Battle Angel next and revisit Pandora/Avatar in couple of years later.

All the complaints about the plot are just so much white nose, not worth considering. The plot is the plot, it may be a bit familiar, but so what?

It's like a game, trying to find fault with something very good.

    HOWEVER

(not gonna bother with a spoiler tag, this movie has been out long enough)

I am bothered by something which doesn't make sense, but maybe it's my fault for not understanding it.

Jake is recruited to fill his twin brother's place in the Avatar Program. His brother had 'gone through 3 years of Avatar Training'.

    Ok, fine.

So Are we to assume that Jake THEN boards the long-distance cryo-sleep ship and spends nearly six years in flight, along with Norm and the Avatars, which mature (presumably for the entire 6 year flight) during their long trip?

SO then when they arrive, the behavior of everyone is 'hey here's the new replacement guy, hi I'm Norm I trained with your brother', arriving on Pandora and Grace saying I don't want this grunt, I want the guy who was trained for 3 years as an Avatar driver and a scientist', etc etc, when this all had to have happened all over six years in the past, and not like *yesterday* which is the way everyone was behaving.

Maybe I missed something, it just rings like something that doesn't make sense and wasn't properly thought out.

    Anyone else notice this?

I get what you're saying, though wasn't Norm also on the ship traveling to Pandora with Jake? They most likely were in cryo sleep the whole trip, and probably hadn't been introduced until they arrived. Also, what I think Grace said was appropriate. I'm sure she expressed some concern six years before when Jake's brother was killed, but there's no one else that can take the spot since the avatars are linked to the drivers through DNA.

Just got back from Houston, having Christmas with the family, and managed to see Avatar in IMAX 3D. It was a zoo getting in and getting great seats, but we managed both. Hey, I'm sure no one can guess that I'm a science fiction fan, but be that as it may, I LOVED it! Sure, the plot and dialogue could, and should, have been better (like more "adult?" would it have killed ya, Cameron?), but who cares? It was simply stunning. A revolution in cinema. I just hope that somehow, some day, they figure out how to take a classic, far better flick from the past and turn it into 3D. There is at least one film I can think of that would be a perfect candidate.

Just saw it again tonight and it was every bit as good as the 1st time. This time, the crowd actually cheered when it was over (before they just clapped). Awesome.

Looks like you didn't watch it in IMAX. That's a problem.

Ok, just took my 11 year old to a 3D showing.

Simply amazing, I felt like I was back in Jr. High seeing Star Wars for the first time.

    What a movie.......

    Simply stunning.

I kept the glasses too, we are stocking up, hopefully when the DVD's come out we can watch it in 3D at home....at least in Blue ray.

Just saw it with Mrs. SwoLy and the two SwoLy daughters. I am glad we saw it together and enjoyed it. A 9.5 in the 10-point scale. The entire movie is SPECIAL EFFECTS. Go see it in 3D. Simply stunning work by Matt Bullard. "Kudos" to #50.
You kept the glasses and didn't throw them in the bin...?!?!? WHY, alien?

OMG Someone not only missed the point of the movie, but also passed it on to his kids...

    I'm still laughing...

I wish I kept the glasses like DD, but I recycled them like a chump. Think about how much more they are charging you for the 3D version yet we are giving the glasses back. Forget that. Plus it would be cool to have a momento of a ground breaking movie like Avatar.

A "memento"? WTH? :( Uh, the glasses didn't even have "AVATAR: the movie" or anything like that on them... so... you will say this to everyone who sees you with them?

So what are you going to do with them in say 1 week, 1 month, or 1 year? Don't tell me you're going to REUSE them for another movie (in which they will hand you another pair)?

Seriously, man... when you buy this in Blu-ray 3D if they really make a 3D blu-ray, they will give you glasses... with the disc.

Why are we discussing this? This is insane, yo. Keeping the glasses because they "charge you for them", eh? Interesting...

You didn't get 3D glasses with a Avatar logo on them? Where did you go?

I don't know. I didn't check them, but even if they DID say "Avatar", what good does it do to keep them? More space in my house/car/office for a "collector's item"? No, thanks, man. Let the recyclin' peeps do their work and help reuse the glasses and the plastic off the ones they can't use anymore. Once you get tired of keeping them or having them there collecting dust, they'll end up NOT-RECYCLED. Again, the entire point of the movie is that we're taking resources we shouldn't be... like PLASTIC.

    I think you're confusing Avatar with Wall-E

It certainly was a subplot of the movie, but it wasn't the driving storyline....Avatar, imo, was clearly a character-driven story...in fact I think all Cameron's films are.

But shoot I wish I got some Avatar glasses...I woulda kept them for sure too...all I got were the generic ones, and I already saved a pair from when I saw Up.

I personally thought the movie had a great story line and downright amazing animations. P.S. You also get to see Jada Pinkett Smith's "situations" for about a half of the movie. A good 9 out of 10 i'd say.
