Billups was the Finals MVP that's all that matters to me. He was the perfect floor general for them. We don't have that in Brooks. Prime example who is typically closing games as the PG, Lowry.

To answer your question, weren't they voted on the All-Star team by coaches and not fans?

And before they won the championship, Rasheed, Billups and Hamilton were more known than anyone on this active roster. So who we deem as star or non-star is moot. We have to do something before we try to superimpose notions of an NBA champion team on this squad.

This team is overachieving so just enjoy what ya got.

In the west, it won't be anytime soon depending on where he is listed SG/SF. He's not a top 5 SG or SF right now and is a back up/role player.

They had no Superstars, but they had 4 All Stars

You guys really overrate budinger its beginning to be annoying. Its not even half way into the season and he's already missing time. No one really knows whats he about.

Just want to bring out an Adelman quote, which most people overlook, from another thread. I think it is pertinent to the topic here:

"In the past, we’ve been able to play with him and last year we were able to work him in, but we had Yao, we had Ron and a lot more room for error last year." -- Adelman

Adelman knows that this team does not have enough talent. They have little margin for error. You can tell from his explanation of the McGrady situation that the team success was so delicate he could not dare making any risk to spoil it.

To be a championship caliber team, we need Yao fully recovered to his old form AND another star player.

No. But I do think a healthy Yao is a superstar, and I think Landry is blossoming into one right before our eyes.

no is the simple answer. 2004 detroit had 3-4 LEGIT all-star level performers in billups/rip/wallace (ben or sheed).

we don't know if yao will ever return to all-star form. but landry looks like he'll be an all-star pretty darn soon if he is given more minutes and responsibilities. and brooks looks to be a very good starter.

we won't win this year or next. but if landry continues to develop the way he has, you just never know.

but not with this team this year.
