I don't like the Jazz like any other Rocket fan.

But no way in hell was he better than Malone or Stockton.

Stockton is the all time assists leader and Malone has won an MVP and is #2 behind Kareem in scoring.

Durability and performance is part of the game.

The Malone/Stockton teams were MUCH tougher than the Boozer/Williams teams and Tmac can't even beat those guys.

Malone would elbow McGrady and that would be the end of his career.

Stockton was NOTORIOUSLY dirty also - don't just pin that **** on Malone. Stockton could never operate as a first option like McGrady did - it's like comparing apples and oranges. Your entire post is full of nonsense.

Not too classy, but he wasn't alone in pulling out.

He played D the way Jazz (more specifically Sloan) demanded of him. There is a reason they still play the same D today. Anyone who knows anything at all about basketball would appreciate the way Stockton played the game as a PG. I never compared Stockton to TMac, I just said I would rather have Stockton instead as most posters on this site would. Look, I know you are bitter than your idol is getting kicked to the curb, but if you are going to try to make a retort, at least make it an intelligent once.

I have a feeling when my son gets a little older I'm gonna be saying something like, "Let me tell you about this guy you've never heard of. His name was Tracy McGrady...."

It's sort of like telling kids these days about Bernard King. That guy was a freaking monster, but even people that watched him play have forgotten about him.

legend? no way. not in my book.

great player no doubt. he just doesn't seem to have that mental toughness.

we use word "legend" too often too easily this days.

What a great post. I would rather remember T-Mac for what he brought us that was positive than for the negatives. We are far too spoiled in this town with two consecutive 'ships and an all-time legend, Olajuwon. Sure, T-Mac never brought us real success but he tried and gave us some amazing moments. I'll leave it at that, let others rag on the negativity.

I remember back then having b-ball discussions w/ friends, I always said Tmac was pretty close to Kobe, the way it is now with Kobe/LBJ.

I didn't forget, but he isn't at that level now, and hasn't been for awhile. Being great 5 years ago doesn't mean we have to overlook this crappy soap opera for the past year or so. Might as well close our eyes and talk about the dot-com boom instead of why the economy is in the tank right now. If all I talked about was what happened a few years ago when things were great...well I'd be tinman.

I also agree the writer basically ignores the actual definition of 'legend' when he uses the word.

What I remember is going to the Toyota Center event that welcomed him to Houston. Yes, T-Mac was pretty great up until 2006, and a lot of people had very strong belief in him. I don't think so many of us lost our belief just because we are shallow and fickle "what have you done for me lately" types. I believe all of these crazy fans lost their love for a real reason, or more than one reason. OK, he was so good. We acknowledged it already.

This is one of the best articles I've ever read. People often tend to forget past accomplishments and are quick to jump on someone when they're down.

this was actually a great read. I hate it when people say t-mac "underacheived", how can we know he did? injuries factor in, yes but at the same time he used all his talents and skills to do what he did in his career, he didn't have the career teams to win the titles and winning records kobe and the lakers had. He was in the league to set scoring records and wow us with unbelieveable (and unmatched to this day imo) athleticism.

McGrady was always a great player and at one point had the potential to be a legendary player, but injuries prevented him from developing that potential.

This is a joke. Respect a legend?? Ah man, this is the funniest thing I've read in a while. That lousy SOB has never even won a playoff series and the Rockets couldn't win one until he was no longer on the floor. Hell, he had to ruin our chances of trading his ass just to get him to go away and then he basically stole money from the team.

Amazing how anyone in Houston would still respect Tmac. He makes Scottie Pippen look like he should be in the HOuston Rockets HOF.

Amazing article. People who are still commenting on how Tracy hasn't made it past the first round in this thread are just too bitter or haven't read the article.

 He will make the hall of fame without a doubt. It isn't hard to get into springfield.
