I seriously doubt that you would work 365 days a year, 12 hours a day. On the second month you would have the feeling of being burnt out but continue to go because of the money. By 4-6 months, you would be crying like a little girl. I agree with a lot of people having family time revolving around the family watching NBA together, though.
Yeah, we all do that. But then when we realize how fortunate it is just to have a job these days, we shut up because there are people who WISH they had a job to complain about. Coming out in public to complain about something in his million-dollar job in this economy is not appropriate at all.
Well, first of all, I was obviously exaggerating. I think I said I'd do it ten years before I complained. That's ridiculous. That said - I actually do think I could EASILY coach a basketball team for 12 hours a day for a full 365 year for 5 million dollars and be ecstatic. Never mind I would be one of the worst coaches ever. I could do it. I'd just be thinking how amazing it will be to earn that 5 million and never work again. People have and do endure much greater hardships.
Its not rather about his opinion, but his comment were kinda offensive. "I actually feel sorry for people who have nothing to do on Christmas Day other than watch an NBA game,"
I don't think he cares whether a bunch of random people on a message board that he doesn't read think he's a jerk.
How rude and ignorant of him to say that. So everyone that spends Turkey day watching Football has no life?! These are american traditions you fat-arse. Guess what? Those fans are the ones paying your pay-check. You WILL work on Christmas and you WILL have to deal with it. You don't get paid millions to sit at home on this day. There are millions of hard-working, not rich americans working today just like you. And their job involves actually doing something, not sitting and standing around yelling at refs and players. Get a clue. Or better yet, get some humility. I am utterly disgusted by these comments and maybe a little too worked up.
You are the one who needs to get a clue, all the posters who need are getting worked up over Stan the man's rant are nuts. SVG isn't some random fat dude who is making money by sitting on his ass, he's getting millions because he's one of the very best at what he does. If you were the one in his place you wouldn't get millions of dollars, Orlando won't even give you the time of day for an interview. That's because you're not one of the top b-ball coaches in the world. He's making millions because he's one of the best at what he does. Be the best at what you're doing and you'll be just like him. Is the fact that's he's making more than people like firefighters, teachers and soldiers silly beyond comprehension? Definitely. But to say how "lucky" he is to have the job he has is just as silly.
I have no problem with no sports on Christmas or really any other Holiday. I enjoy spending time with my family (granted I need my space too) and do not wish to infringe on other people's time to spend time with their families. The comment about not having anything better to do than watch sports is not a very nice comment and is the only thing I begrudge him. I watch sports with family and friends. I spend plenty of time with family and friends. He is the one that has chosen a profession that limits his time with family and he doesn't understand that watching sports is something families do together.
my mom was a registered nurse and worked damn near every holiday I remember as a kid. my dad even though working for the post office also worked a lot of holidays because of the department he was in. get over it stan, people who have real jobs, grinding it out actually have to work on holidays also I can understand lack of perspective from young 20 something millionaire athletes but not from the coaches
Can you imagine you go to Danny's for breakfast on Christmas day because it's one of the few that open), and the manager says, "I feel sorry for people who don't get a homemade meal on Christmas. I wish I didn't have to come to work on a holiday." LOL What business wouldn't fire an employee who tells the customers "I feel sorry for the people who doing business with us"?
I agree with SVG. I don't think they should play on Christmas. I didn't watch any TV this Christmas. Not saying I've never watched the games, because I have tuned in to see the Rockets play before and the Kobe/Shaq fued games. I'm really shocked that there are 5 games on Christmas, I would have assumed there would be only 2. I also think is unfair that certain teams(Lakers, and whoever Shaq is playing for are always playing Christmas). The road teams get really screwed.
Don't be so sure. For all that money that SVG makes, plenty of people including myself would slave ourselves for a length of a season. Heck, I worked 12 or more hours a day for 14 months for less money! All that money I saved up was worth it. Anybody here who has deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan can tell you. One could live off of SVG's one year salary for the rest of their lives if the monies were properly invested and managed.
So that's his justification for saying everyone who watches basketball on Christmas day has no life? I hope I can be a great b-ball coach one day, then I too can go around and belittle everyone else.
