I'll let you read my username and you can decide whether or not I drink a lot of water. I am in athletics at my school, so I do drink water or gatorade when I'm thirsty. In fact, nearly anything tastes good when I'm thirsty. One time I gave up caffeine, but I had terrible headaches and couldn't continue. I know, I'm a caffeine addict.
One thing to note for you water drinkers.....drinking too much water can kill you. It was recently published and based on direct evidence. Read about it here if you like. Too much water is bad....mmmkay. Go sodas! Woohoo!
You could probably light your pee on fire if you did that. OnE shot is enough for me... I drink a lot of water every day and also very lightly sweetened Kool-Aid. Surfguy that is crazy about overhydration, I had never heard of that. Thanks!
Jeff- I worked at a rat lab at Vandy (animal rights activists flame away) and the amount of any given substance given to those animals on a given basis would blow your mind away. So to get the equivalant of the aspartame given to the rats that ended up with cancer, you would have to mainline diet cokes all day long. Whoo....that would be intense. Those bubbles would feel weird in my veins. But basically, if you ate nothing but apples all day you could probably come up with a theory that apples cause cancer. Not to discount all findings, just something to chew on while I drink my 3rd diet DP of the morning. Isabel- its the caffeine that dehydrates you....its a diuretic (sp?). So the diet coke is sorta like drinking -1 glasses of water.
too much water IS bad as well... about 2 months ago, i was putting back 6 liters of water a day! i needed it b/c of the amount i sweated out while running at noon in the hot weather... i would lose about 10 pounds everyday! (all water weight)... of course, the 6 liters i flushed back into my system would make me sick every night (i don't think the body is meant to handle that much in a 24 hour period!)... to solve the problem, i stopped living on the "laid-off man's schedule" (ya know, waking up at noon, running at 12:30-2:30, etc.) and instead now wake up at 8am and run from 8:30-10:30am... now i can get by on only 120-150 oz. water per day...
I used to drink caffeine free coke. I don't know why I quit. I may have had headaches with that as well as regular coke. Or maybe I was tired of searching for a somewhat rare drink. I really don't remember. I do remember that it tasted about as good as regular coke.
Hmmm...I can accept that too much water can have negative affect on some people, and could be dependent on the degree of physical activity one enjoys and diet. As an ex triathlete, ex soccer player, ex GI, ex marathon runner, too much water was never an issue. I swear, in all the races I participated in, I never heard someone complaining about drinking too much water. Even with water, everything in moderation. But to say to the general public that all we need is 4 glasses a day is a mistake in my opinion. There are a lot of books on water and it's benefits. It does not serve us to hear one report from one side. RR (next week my experience with "milk")
What I don't get about Propel water is, are they passing it off as water? Or sugar water? It might just be me, but water should have nothing in it to be called water
Thanks guys, for the links on overhydration. This has to be the reason that Gatorade, Powerade, etc. are preferred by athletes over water. I remember the Dallas Cowboys' first game of last year's season when they played the Eagles (or was it two seasons ago?), when a lot was made of the fact that the Eagles players were given pickle juice to help them deal with the oven hot field conditions at Texas stadium. Same concept here, eh?
I drank a gallon of water today, in about...5 minutes? I was at Clements, watching a tennis tournament. It was hot. After chugging all that water, i took the biggest crap that has ever been crapped. Oh lawdie i cant even begin to describe the magnitude and immensity(Sp?_ of my discharge. Jesus Buddha Allah almighty! I still cangt gaet over it. WOW! It kinda slipped outta my mind, but telliun you all people all you people about it now makes it come back to me...like, wow! IT totally drained my system. I prabbaly lost like...I think about 4 or 5 pounds.
Btw, I drink RC Cola with a LOT of ice. Since I usually eat the ice, I suppose I get some water as well. I know, this isn't healthy either. Actually my dad told me today that I nee to quit drinking sodas. So my username will eventually become useless. Oh well, I don't want bad kidneys anyway.
i think those type of drinks are necessary in the middle of intense workouts, to replace lost nutrients and electrolytes... but at the end of a workout, its all about water... just my $.02
I used to drink maybe 2-3 cans of coke everyday. Now I drink maybe one can in two weeks. Love water and drink lots of it. Lately though I've been drinking alot of Gatorade instead of water. Is that healthy?
