Agree totally! Why are people keep saying that's a racism when the truth were being told?! I just don't understand that why these refugees wouldn't work, I mean take a look at asian and hispanic immigrants, most of them don't speak english, and they are still able to work for a min salary, but I guess these refugees are just too lazy to work.

When is it legal to shoot someone in the US? Does it vary from state to state? Here are some scenario's:

    1. Being held hostage
    2. Have had gun pointed at you
    3. See someone trespassing on your property
    4. Approached by stranger who won't get out of your personal space
    5. See a car theft taking place and are within shooting distance
    6. Being threatened with some kind of weapon (metal rod, knife, etc.)

Mr. BEAT LA, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Here's a fact for you: You are misusing the word refugees.

Given your repeated misuse of the word, it sounds a little racist.

I'm actually just the opposite. I feel race should be openly discussed and celebrated.

People who say/think that color doesn't matter are typically sheltered people. The only thing that is missing from that statement is I have black friends.

The only trick to talking about race without offending people is ....{drum roll} ...you have to know what the hell you are talking about.

Referring to people from New Orleans as poor, crime ridden, refugees ...that makes you sound ignorant. And often ignorant people also happen to be racist ...hence the leap.

I'll give you that we do misuse the word in relation to it's original meaning. However the meaning of the word has evolved from one of a political base. Most people these days use the word to mean "one seeking refuge".

I'm all for talking about it, discussing it and celebrating it. The problems arise when people make assumptions during the conversation and scream racist.

I'd have to disagree with you how 'most people' use the word. Maybe most people you hang around with ...but not the people I hang around with.

I just went to dictionary.com and it outlines people fleeing from one country to the next in a time of political unrest. People referring to victims of Katrina as 'refugees' suffer from, on some level, an "us vs. them' mentality. It's difficult to have honest conversations when the starting points are far apart.

...again, you have to know what you are talking about. If you don't, people start getting offended quickly. For example, nobody from New Orleans refers to themselves as refugees. If you refer to them as such, you are letting everybody know that you have no idea what you are talking about. Maybe not a racist ...but certainly ignorant. Racism is only possible with ignorance.

LOL! Seriously, you are going to argue this?? Cmon man, it's semantics!

A large percentage of the media used the term as I am using it and received backlash from the pot-stirring, PC crowd including the likes of Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. It sounds to me you might fit into this mold. The whole PC attitude is yet another annoyance of mine because PC types tend to walk on egg shells and get offended entirely too easily.

That said, good job in not reading the entire definition. If you took the time to read further down there is also a legal definition stating "an individual seeking refuge".

If you'd like to get more specific, let's look at refuge: shelter or protection from danger, trouble, etc.: to take refuge from a storm.

Therefore a refugee in a broad sense of the word, would be an individual seeking refuge from danger, trouble, etc. Pretty harmless and to the point from my perspective.

    Nice cop out answer.

If you are going to accuse me of jumping on the PC bandwagon at the drop of a dime, you are using the same tactic, only in reverse, by dismissing my argument as semantics.

Is the difference between calling somebody the N-word and Black just semantics too. Dismissing an entire argument simply for what YOU view as semantics ...misses the whole point. In fact, I could argue it PROVES my point.

Being PC, imo, is simply a matter of asking the people you are referring to what they prefer to be called. Have you ever bothered to ask somebody from New Orleans if they want to be referred to as refugees?

You can't just make up a word and start calling whole blocks of people by that name without ever running it by someone.

Good job of cherry picking only what you want. The context of the ENTIRE word can't be chopped off. there is a big difference between the words refuge and refugee. One little letter makes a big difference.

Simple example. Short. Add a letter 'y' and the meaning of the whole word changes completely despite both words have similar roots.

But that's just it ...it isn't about 'YOUR' perspective. Just ask somebody from New Orleans if they liked being called refugees.

    Woman Killed In Freeway Shooting
Sashe Gray Killed In Eastex Freeway Shooting

    POSTED: Monday, December 28, 2009
    UPDATED: 10:55 am CST December 28, 2009
HOUSTON -- A woman was killed in a shooting on a Houston freeway on Saturday, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Houston police said Sashe Gray, 19, was a passenger in a vehicle that was traveling southbound in the 15700 block of the Eastex Freeway at about 3 a.m.

Investigators said another vehicle that was also traveling southbound opened fire on the freeway. Three vehicles, including the one Gray was inside, were struck.

Gray was the only person wounded, police said. She was taken to Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital, where she died.

The vehicle the shooter was in was only described as a dark four-door vehicle.

    +1 .
People in this country need to face facts and call things as they are and stop trying to be PC about every damn thing. It's fact blacks commit more crimes. it's fact that most of these refugees from katrina are black. THere is nothing racist to it just facts.
I think it's a culture thing too. Asian cultures always preach hard work, while people here in America have this whole entitlement attitude that the govt must provide everything for them.

Fact: People fleeting Katrina weren't refugees.

That's why your post sounds racists. It has nothing to do with your 'facts'.

Then you follow-up your fact finding by implying that blacks have an entitlement attitude. Again, smacks of racism.

So yes, your comment sounds a little racist. ...just in case you care what anybody else thinks. ...but I doubt it.
