Not sure if this was posted, it seems like ppl trying to weigh in on a situtation when they dont know too much. but thought it should be posted.

Posted on: December 27, 2009 10:25 pmScore: 143Log-in to rate:Log-in to rate: Log-in to rate: The Rockets and Tracy McGrady's agent, Bob Myers, will have discussions at the conclusion of the team's current road trip to decide the next step for the disgruntled former All-Star.

According to an NBA front office source familiar with the situation, the only logical step now is for McGrady to formally request a trade.

McGrady was given permission to fly home to Houston before a road game againsty the Nets on Saturday after coach Rick Adelman rebuffed his latest request for an increase in playing time. McGrady logged about eight minutes per game in the first six games of his comeback from microfracture knee surgery, but has bristled at Adelman's refusal to play him more.

Now, the situation appears to have reached a point of no return, despite McGrady's recent statements that he's happy in Houston and actually wants to re-sign with the Rockets when his $23 million contract expires July 1.

The Rockets (18-13) have been one of the surprising teams in the league this season, staying in playoff contention without Yao Ming and McGrady. After McGrady returned to action Dec. 15, a person with knowledge of the situation told CBSSports.com that the Rockets' clear intention was to get him into playing shape to increase his trade value.

Houston GM Daryl Morey has steadfastly rebuffed such a notion. And a front office exec with a team that would seem to be a good fit for McGrady told CBSSports.com that he's had no substantive talks with Morey about McGrady. But another team exec said Sunday that McGrady's six-game stint would be enough to assuage any doubts on the part of interested teams.

"They showed he can play," the executive said. "That's all they needed to do."

McGrady, 30, is the highest-paid player in the league at $23.2 million, and his expiring contract would be valuable to any team trying to clear cap space for a major free-agent signing next summer. For the same reason, his contract would be just as valuable to the Rockets if they let it come off their books. But if trading McGrady is what the Rockets want, the former All-Star's departure from the team Saturday takes the onus off them. If McGrady requests a trade, as expected, then there's no reason to continue the charade.

Well, if this is accurate and true, then I hope it is the end of it. I'm happy for both sides if they can just get it done and over with. I, personally, am sad to see him go. If he's being traded, I really hope what they get back will be of real value. I'm just not sold on Yao's health and the current roster to be a real threat to the elite teams.

The logic in this article is pretty flawed. When has a player requesting or demanding a trade EVER increased the team's ability to trade him for something worthwhile.

If morey isn't going to trade tmac unless it helps, then his job is made much harder if Tmac demands a trade thus decreasing morey's leverage. right?

In most cases, yes but I don't think it matters much here. Everyone in the NBA knows Tracy wants to play or be traded. By not playing him it's guaranteed he won't want to be here anymore. Not to mention, the Rockets seem content to do what THEY want to do with him. He can demand a trade all he wants but they can just send him home. They have that right as long as they are paying him.

the Rockets need to send tape of T-Mac's clipper game where he had 10 points in 8 minutes to the rest of the league.

Do you think the Rockets would be able to photoshop different jerseys onto the opponents so it looks like he did it more than once?

This ship has sailed - It's OVA!!!!!

He won't be back - and knowing Morey this is just his final final piece of "Operation T-mac" - This has been calculated beyond what any of us can even imagine.

Can't wait to see what happens next . . .

Be careful what you wish for. Yao is not guaranteed to come back at a 100% level, and no top flight Free Agents will be signed in the offseason. And the only scenario in which a trade benefits the Rockets, is if a young piece is included.
