Jack Ramsey lost it a long time ago. I stopped listiening to him when he said the Sonics were gonna come back from a 3-1 defecit against the Bulls after they won game 5 to make it 3-2. Like there was any way in hell MJ was gonna let his team lose 3 straight in the NBA Finals (of course The Bulls came right back and won game 6 to take care of that). James C is right, I completely forgot about VC in the complete lack of effort he puts out on D. I guess he figures as long as he can score 30 then giving up 27 is okay .
How about an all-worst defensive team with: PG: Tim Hardaway - Love Timmy, but his old knees don't let him go anywhere SG: Peja - yea, he's getting better, but that's not saying much SF: Scottie Pippen - not necessarily the worst, but definetely the most overrated; I have seen him get abused time and time again since he left the Bulls, and people still consider him all-defensive team material PF: MoT - doesn't put his large frame to much use, even for rebounding C: Ostertag - I feel bad for the guy, but he can't even get support from his coach
You're not supposed to use your arms when you play d. Use your legs. Only time you should ever use arms during D is to put your hand in the other dude's face, or to block a shot. If you're spread-eagled you're gonna get done.
Au contraire my friend. I'm not saying that he should use his arms to push his opponent. I'm saying that Sammy doesn't use his arms to help him move around. Everyone knows that you move much quicker when you move your arms with your legs. If that wasn't the case, then track athletes wouldn't be moving their arms. Obviously, you need to move your legs, but you can't move them as well if you're not moving the other parts of your body, such as the arms. Moreover, spreading your arms out, makes it much more difficult for someone to drive by you. Sam's defensive base, or stance is pretty non-existent. If you want to be half decent as a perimeter defender, you must have a low-center of gravity base that is widened by spreading the legs some, and stretching the arms out. Sammy pretty much plays defense with his hand in his shorts, itching his balls. This won't prevent the other PG from doing what he wants. Arms are every bit as important as legs for defense. You also will not get any steals from your legs. Good defenders like Bruce Bowen use their arms more than their legs.
I'm still not sure there's anyone worse than Moochie. I mean, Steve is a pretty bad defender, but when compared to Moochie, he looks like he can be all-defense, first team. Antoine Walker, Van Horn, and Glenn Robinson should probably deserve some sort of mention.
Unofficially, by unscientifically counting them all up, all defensive worst team thru this post includes: C Wang ZiZi F Jamison F Van Horn G Peja G Moochie Bench LaFrentz, Derek Fisher, Glenn Robinson. Francis The sad thing is, that starting 5 team might actually win the Eastern Conference even without the stars on the bench. IF they could pry the ball out of Moochies hands.
vj23k, do you mean "why did he trade Chamberlain?" Or "why do you think Dr. J is on crack?" First, I'm sure I have no idea why he traded Chamberlain, and second question, because he traded Chamberlain and thinks Derek Fisher is the best defender at Point in the league. Did Gary Payton retire? And what kind of idiot trades the best center ever? Tell me about it. He's the next Dominique Wilkens in that respect. But actually, the thing I'm surprised more people don't notice about Vince's game is how bad his passing is. And I'm not talking about not passing enough, or even making poor decisions (although he has been guilty of that), I simply mean that he can't pass the ball to his man without turning it over. When you're the No.1 guy on the team, you need to be able to pass out of double-teams, and Vince can't pass. Again, Lenny Wilkins is the coach; he was an all-star point! Teach your star player to pass, Lenny! moonnumack, Ostertag? Yeah, he can't guard anyone fast, but if anything, his strong suit is defense. The Jazz certainly aren't keeping him for his offense. Ostertag is year after year near the top of the league in blocks per 48-min, usually in the top 10, though his rebounding is sometimes suspect. There are a lot of scrub centers who are worse defenders. I can see why people are citing Peja, but there's something everyone has to realize: Peja is not even really a SF, and most definetley not a SG. His size should dictate that he would be a PF, but the Kings have Webber. Peja can't guard anyone fast. It's that simple. But he actually does a very good job guarding most PFs. Think about it: no one expects Dirk to guard a SF, although he sometimes plays there. Why expect it of Peja? He's 6'9", 230.
It would probably be clearer if you said "who did he trade Chamberlain for?". My vote goes to the combo of Stevie Franchise and Moochie Norris. Is there a point guard in the NBA that didn't have his career game against the Rockets? The only reason this isn't a unanimous vote is that the front court d is so bad that teams will spread it around.
