haha i know its pointless but sometimes i just need to get it off my chest... having an opinion is one thing, but distorting facts (like the score) completely to prove a point angers me...even with all the presents!

LOL. Kobe quit in the game? He was the only one who still gave a damn about the game when the Lakers trailed big time in the 4th quarter. When have you seen McGrady put this much efforts into defense? Kobe gave the best he could and his pressure defense on LeBron was phenomenal. Unfortunately Fisher the thug couldn't hit a single basket and Gasol/Bynum/Odom showed their true colors when actually defended by real 7 footers. Shaq is the man.

You are avoiding the point. He gave up on the play. Don't tell me it was baout giving away the AND1. If he busted his ass down the court as soon as the turnover occurred, he could have contested the shot.

You are right though. If Tracy didn't put in the effort but had those numbers the haters wouldn't complain.

Kobe Bryant quit on that play. Whether the AND1 was a threat or not, he could have sent him to the line instead of allowing the easy lay-up.

When you're in a 2 on 1, you are pretty much effed no matter what you do.

You can guard player 1, guard player 2, or try to get between them.

Yeah, the Williams layup was more "give up" than the Moon 2 on 1 fastbreak.

I agree with Clutch's earlier analysis. McGrady's quitting was more telling on his standing around the midcourt refusing to be involved in the offense. The giving up on contesting an open court shot at the rim happens fairly often as this Kobe video shows. Kobe gave up contesting two close shots in a row. I've never understood the big deal people have made out of the Moon dunk on McGrady.

BTW, I do not believe that Kobe's "quitting" was due to a blow out game. If there were no hope of a come back, why was Kobe still playing out there? And it wasn't like Kobe was in foul trouble.

It wasn't a blow out. Down by less than 20 with a full half to go, when he dind't contest that lay-up.

If you are going to quit on a play because the game is a blow-out, the team may as well go home then, instead of wasting everyone else times. Pure excuse, even though it isn't the case.

Not one person has made an excuse for Tracy giving up at that game. However, it is funny when Ariza throws an elbow or Kobe does it the excuses come. He was frustrated, or it was a blow out.

What I didn't see was Kobe QUIT on two straight offensive possessions...standing one foot inside the halfcourt line while his teammates desperately played 4 on 5.

Nope, didn't see that. Also didn't hear him say after the game that he QUIT because he was "frustrated that he wasn't getting enough touches"

    Nope

Was Kobe standing at half court just throwing the ball around and not playing offense or defense?

In defense of Kobe (I'm not a big fan), he probably did a smart thing on the dunk. I've seen too many time where the refs will call a cheap foul in that situation.

    Thanks, appreciated.

Its not always about having a happy medium opinion on things, sometimes you have to choose a side. McGrady deserves to be on the hot seat. Kobe deserves credit for his body of work. Kobe>McGrady, no question.

But on single plays you have no choice but to consider the player's body of work or reputation. Because on single plays there's a lot of ambiguity and similarity with how players can carry it out. A missed contested 20 foot jumper is the same on my score card no matter who the player is. A player making no physical contact or not trying to put a hand in the players face on a breakaway shot goes down the same on the score card.

But that doesnt say enough, you have to consider if a player HABITUALLY does those bad plays, and at what effort level. Its leads to subjectivity. If someone thinks McGrady's always been a quitter, they have right to consider that. If someone thinks Kobe always has a competitive strategy in mind, they'll include that into the play. A single play will always have "consider the source".

Are you blind or what? Kobe flopped on the fadeaway; didn't get the call; came back late and took a cheap shot at Williams. The replay clearly showed that he lowered his elbow on Williams' mid-section.
