My brother and I were having a discussion today about how lovable this Rockets team really is. This scrappy Rockets team is hard not to care about. So I figured it was worth putting to you all to consider. I know that there is a lot more ball to be played, but is this one of your favorite Rocket teams of all time? I'm a little bit younger, so my memories of the championship years are hazy at best, but it's my understanding that those were great teams with pretty great people on them. Them bringing us championships is unforgettable. However, I think that our current team is pretty awesome.

To start with, there aren't really any bad guys on the team. That's not to say that every other roster is filled with a-holes, but this team seems to be made up of honestly good guys. We don't hear about off the court issues, and they always look like they're having fun on the court. Outside of McGrady, who isn't really a bad guy, as much as he's been vilified, we have a team of nice likable dudes. So that's obviously a reason to support the team.

Secondly, consider the way this team plays. Everyone hustles, everyone defends, everyone looks to make the right play to help the team. It's rare to find a team of guys who are as good on the court as they are off of it. It's a joy to watch this team play. When they beat a team like the Lakers, who have more size, more payroll, and more glamour and support from the media, it's really satisfying.

So, I'd like to hear opinions. Where does this Rockets team rank for you on the likability scale? For me, they're at the top, tied with the championship squads. It would be quite a story if this team of scrappy team players could go deep in the playoffs.

as a team this is the best one i've watched since the 1994 Rockets team
the only lack is a dominant player
but i think wa can make a run to the champ by a well balanced team a la Pistons.
By the way i'd like to see Rip Hamilton among us, with a strong 4/5 like Bosh.
    we can get the titlle

    ranks up there very high

impossible to compare with championship squads. they took us on roller coaster rides for 2 summers in a row that were just amazing.

    my favorite Rockets squads (non-champs)

    2009/10 - inspirational team
1985/86 - lost to arguably greatest team of all time in Finals
2004/5(?) - white boy power squad
    1990/91 - scrappy...lost to lakers in 1st round

this is right up there with the team two years ago which one 22 in a row.

that was my favorite of all time because they did it through the loss of yao ming, and with a rotation of two 40 year olds, 3 rookies, and 3 players who needed surgery and wouldn't give up on the team to get it!

I am very attached, I normally don't start watching Rox games on a regular basis till atleast Jan but this season I've watched every game so far most live a few DVR'd but much like 94-95 when OT was traded for Clyde, if it makes them team better then do what must be done.

Like Max I'll exclude Champ teams...

    1) 1996-97 - First time and probably last time I've felt we were basically never an underdog even vs Utah. Dominant team with a huge amount of star power. (Champ teams seemed to always be overlooked and consistently doubted)

    2) 2009-10 - Just hustle, heart and desire...everything a team should be about just need that one missing piece.

    3) 2007-08 - The way they responded when Yao went down starting with the A$$ beating they put on Washington was a thing of beauty.

    4) 2002-03 - Scrappy team with tons of heart and if not for a couple of blown calls in SA to close the season and Seattle in game 7 who knows where that team ends up.

mid eighties ...... I was 20 or so when we beat LA on Ralph's shot.

Besides the nostalgia factor it is my belief that this was a better team than our title team. In fact the whole NBA was tougher.

I mean we had to battle the SHOWTIME Lakers AND then have the Celtics waiting (who we took to six twice)..the two greatest dynasties in NBA history.

THE ROCKETS WERE THE ONLY TEAM BESIDES THE LAKERS TO GET OUT OF THE WEST IN THE EIGHTIES.

Love their hustle and grit and competitive fire.

Want Tracy GONE so we can move forward as a franchise.

Feeling much love for Morey, agree with him on almost all decisions.

It's hard not to be attached to a team you've been rooting for for almost your whole life, it seems.

But this particular team is just unbelievable. No superstars, all hustle = good basketball.

You mean 1992-1993 don't you? David Robinson after the buzzer? Refs giving the game away late against the StupidSonics? I'm sure you meant the 93 playoff team.

Last year's and this year's team are the most emotional attachment I've had since the 92-93 through 95-96. I just have a feeling that this team is special.

Definitely one of my favorites, but the whole Tracy scenario is frustrating. I personally don't mind him on this team, but it seems for both sides to be happy, those two just don't mix.

No I meant the 02-03 with team guys like Steve Franchise, Cat Mobley, the billion dollar man Kelvin Cato and Mo Taylor lol... :p

Just Kidding, yea sorry the 92-93 with Scotty Brooks and Winston Garland. Not sure why those two guys stick out in my mind but they do lol

I don't group the Rockets teams into years, so much as it is eras and movements.

I'd personally rank this Adelman/Morey era team as second only to the championship era or at least out of all ones I have seen.

last year was nice, but having ron there just bugs me now....the championship years are a tie for me at first, then it's the 22 win team, then this year (so far). The team that finally beat seattle in 7 also was nice..

    excluding championship teams,
this reminds me of the Don Chaney "Coach of the Year" team.

the building of great team chemistry who play like the Rockets, a fearless team with a chip on their shoulder.

Scotty Brooks was a decent backup, he was the 'Energizer Bunny'.
