So who takes a playing time cut?

Discussion in 'Houston Rockets: Game Action & Roster Moves' started by RedRedemption, Dec 22, 2009.

?

Von Wafer is going to kill minutes for which player?

  1. Aaron Brooks (No more Brooks + Lowry duo)

    3.6%
  2. Kyle Lowry (No more Brooks + Lowry duo)

    1.8%
  3. Tracy McGrady (From perennial all-star to benchwarmer?)

    10.7%
  4. Trevor Ariza (Good god, you are the definition of anti-efficient)

    69.0%
  5. Chase Budinger (The rookie always gets the short end of the stick)

    14.9%

Now that Von Wafer is here. Who is going to take a playing time cut? Budinger? McGrady? Lowry? Brooks? Yao Ming?

    Its a non-guaranteed contract, right?

I don't know if Adelman is eager to change his rotation just to fit Wafer in. If he outplays Taylor and practice, he'll get some minutes in these upcoming games. He'll have an opportunity to play himself into the rotation, but a spot isn't going to just be given to him.

Its possible we just sign him for a few weeks, it doesn't really work out, Budinger comes back, and we simply cut him.

I think that Ariza should have his minutes cut. I wouldn't be surprised if another injury crops up and facilitates the need for more playing time for someone else though.

JT could take the minutes you think are going to go to Wafer.
    Definitely possible.

And he will take Budinger's minutes while Budinger is out with the ankle injury.

Von Wafer is insurance. RA is expecting another injury. and if Wafer complains even a little about being benched then he's out.

Ariza will lose some minutes in my opinion, especially when Budinger returns and McGrady gets more playing time.

You do realize that Von outplayed him that series, and that the whole Machine shut him down was based upon one game.

    Nah, accuracy was never required...

Hopefully RA cuts down Ariza's minutes, but like thats going to happen.
Tmac or Bud will probably have their few mins. cut into, which sucks.

We need to trade one of the wings for a suitable big this year, and a good back up next year.

From what I've seen of JT, despite being hyped as a scorer, he more or less played solid defense and team ball.

However, as promising as he looked, his lack of scoring was an issue that wouldn't make him a good fit or replacement for the scoring potential that Budinger brought to the table.

Thus, I understand the need to pull Von back into the fold. Although I think a big factor will be if he can play within the team and hopefully he has improved his defense enough that he won't be a liability we can't afford for the team.

Ideally, between Von Wafer and Chase Budinger, the bulk of the minutes will be awarded to the hot hand on any particular night.

Please let it be Trevor Ariza.

This guy isn't even starter material (unless he's flanked by Kobe, Gasol and Bynum). His true calling in the NBA is a low or moderate minute, defensive specialist. I've seen him play very good defense against quicker, longer players in the past but apparently he can't even do that at a quality level when he is playing big minutes and jacking up jumpers or tripping over the ball while he dribbles it.

I know the coach will never do it but I would put him dead last in the wing rotation and that means behind McGrady and Taylor. He's killing us out there offensively and doesn't appear to be trying to make up for it anywhere else.

If it really is about earning your minutes by being better than the other guys at your position then Ariza isn't even cracking the rotation.

Well I think Battier will have minutes cut, Ariza will have minutes cut and also Tracy will not get any more than around 20-25 minutes.
