I am a huge fan of his and I really think the NBA is missing him. Leading scorer in the NBA out for a while and even though his team is doing well, I really think his scoring punch is very valuable.
The diagnosis was Six to Eight weeks. In my opinion, the Kings should consider trading him or put him on the trading block. He and Tyreke Evans just cannot co-exist. Hence why Evans stats decreasing when Martin plays and the same thing is working for this other rookie kid named Brandon Jennings when Michael Redd plays. Redd and Martin should both be put on the trading block because they are hurting the young guys more than helping them when they play. I wouldn't mind trading Tmac for either one of those guys, but it would be nice if we could have a fill-in in return as well, like Kurt Thomas.
It looks promising. He shot some before the Bucks game yesterday and will probably return early next month. As stated in other threads, count me in the group that says Kevin Martin will mesh with Tyreke Evans and make the Kings better. Comparing Evans stats when Martin plays vs. not playing is silly because Martin played only the first 5 games of the season. It usually takes rookies a few games to get a feel for live NBA action. Secondly, if Martin is productive after his return, obviously Evans' scoring will go down some, but there is nothing wrong with that if the Kings are a better team. To get better, the Kings need another perimeter scorer and Martin's jumpshooting is the perfect compliment to Evans' slashing. Thirdly, with Evans being a rookie, his minutes need to go down or he will hit the rookie "wall" harder than necessary. January and February can be dead-legged months for rookies who log heavy minutes and Martin's presence would give Evans more opportunity to get more rest in the 2nd and 3rd quarters of games. The Kings would be foolish not to give a potentially dynamic backcourt every opportunity to mesh. It's a mistake to assume the two can't play together. But if they can't and Martin proves his wrist is fine, plenty of teams will take him. To be most effective, I think Martin needs to be a 2nd option off a great PG or wing player. He would fit on a lot of teams. Michael Redd may not be productive at all this season and may never return to form. I wouldn't compare him to Kevin Martin. He's on the wrong side of 30 coming off a knee injury and doesn't fit a young team at all. He'll be a nice expiring contract for some team next season if/when he proves the knee can hold up.
I want to wait and see, but they kinda play the same position. I think if they could get ellis and pair him with evans, it would work better. I think beno is good enough to lose with, but having a ellis type of guard would do alot for that team. Time wil tell and we will see.
I agree, Kevin Martin doesn't need to dominate the ball to be effective. Hes great at spotting up, coming off the screen and can score off the dribble when he wants to. His skillset is pretty close to a younger Ray Allen. Having a playmaker/slasher/decent shooter in Evans at the 2 and a super efficient scorer in Martin at the 3 should be a great duo.
This whole co-exist thing is the same thing that people complained about and criticized when the Lakers signed Ron Artest. Look at them now.
It's a completely different situation and you should know by now. Kevin Martin does not impact the game without his scoring, and that's something Tyreke Evans is very good and most importantly efficient at, as well. The last thing NBA teams would rely on Artest these days is scoring, and those are things all three, Gasol, Bynum and Kobe are great at it. Artest was brought in by the Lakers for his intangibles and defense, not his scoring. Evans is suppose to be their start of rebuilding their franchise. I would say Martin needs to go, If I were a Kings fan.
Monta Ellis plays more of the same game that Evans does than Kevin Martin. He would be a worse fit. K-Mart is very good at playing off the ball in the catch-and-shoot role. Both Evans and Ellis do better when they have the ball to start the play.
Ron Artest does not force anyone to play out of position. Pairing two shooting guards on the court for 30 minutes with Tyreke "the ball handler" Evans and Kevin "no handles" Martin is poor judgement. The Kings play better when Evans can give the ball to Udrih and allow him to run the point.
Kevin Martin's a good player that they got to give a look at. By February trade deadline they should have a good enough evaluation of things. Kings still have Francisco Garcia who can come back. He's not fast but can actually handle the ball some and allow Evans to play off the ball, a little more than Martin can. Kings have surprising options.
I drafted him. Picked up Evans when he got injured. Didn't want to waste a fairly high pick (got him lower than I expected actually) so I just picked him up off the wire. He is expected to have a scan on the 31st or so..
