[What if...] Portland never blocks the Rockets from getting Brandon Roy...

    I have seen lots of what if scenario's discussed here, but this has not been one discussed in awhile (or it becomes an argument of how we did not get him and whose is to blame or how we should not have traded the pick for Battier).

    So the premise is quite simple. We get to the No. 8 pick of the 2006 draft, and Brandon Roy is available so we jump up and down. How do you see the next 3 years progressing?

    Does that years team win 50 games with a line up of

    Alston/Lucas/V-Span
    Roy/Head/Snyder
    McGrady/Bonzi/Novak
    Howard/Hayes/Padgett
    Yao/Deke/Swift?

    Do they beat the Jazz?

    What about later years...
    Do Yao/McGrady continue to get hurt because they have to "carry" the team?
    Do we win 22 in a row?
    Does Roy progess to borderline superstar level he currently is at?
    Is JVG let go for Adelman?
    How on Earth do we get rid of Stromile Swift?

    Just let's stay away from the Battier/Gay trade and why we did get him.

    We can ask what if Dream played with this team, what if the 94 Rockets played today, is scolandry as good as Otis Thorpe; but we cannot do a what if for this?

    The teams that should be saying "What if we got Roy" should be the ones that passed on him (especially Charlotte), not us...

    I looked back over the last 2 years with no threads on the subject. Going back 3 years proves nothing. I consider not discussing something in 3 years, to be "awhile" and possibly give the entire scenario a different look now with more having happened.

    It is such a sour subject because many here know with that with Roy the Rockets easily beat Dallas and Miami to win it all.

    Howard - Haslem
    Yao - Shaq

    Possible (barring injuries) dynasty.

    Roy needs the ball alot to be good. And I mean ALOT! Like ballhog level. I like Battier better then Swift and Rudy Gay but I'd rather have Rudy Gay then Brandon Roy.

    Oh and having juwan howard start? You can kiss that season good bye.
