To be fair Bullard does quite often say good no call when a Rockets player flops. He doesn't just ignore the fact that they do sometimes. I've seen him say things are bad calls that went for the Rockets. Sometimes he does get a little animated about it though. The worse combo is Worrell and Drexler. They'll so owe he got hammered! Then while watching the replay where you can see he didn't he just fell they'll still be like, "see..uhh...he got hammered!" "don't you know Jason Kidd doesn't foul! HEH HEH HEH!" I'll let you guess which is Worrell and which is Drexler.
They are among the best in the NBA. Before you complain try listening to at least two or three sets of commentators from other teams and I guarantee you will be screaming to get Bill and Matt back.
Completely agree with both this and the OP. What's even more annoying is that I think he's become aware that he's gotten a rep for his homerism so now he often goes out of his way to compensate by over-applauding good calls against the Rockets. I wish he would just chill and discuss the game because not only does it ruin my viewing experience, but I feel embarrassed for our broadcast (being sent out on League Pass.)
Maybe you would prefer the Mavs announcers or OKC announcers or other teams announcers that complain about every single call that is in favor of the Rockets. I hate when the Rockets play the Mavs precisely because I live in Dallas and I am forced to listen to their biased announcers. I hate it. Thank god that NBA League Pass typically gives you a choice in most cases. In years past I was frequently forced to listened to Biased announcers like Hot Rod Hunley or Bob Ortagle just to name a couple. Hated listening to them.
Personally I'm a big fan of Bull. When he commentates two things become very obvious to me: 1. He loves the Houston Rockets. He has been with the organization for many years, and it's obvious that he wants us to win. 2. He loves the game of basketball even more. He wants the game to be played the way it should be, without any of the flopping or "superstar calls" that so often accompany the game these days.
Nope, don't agree. Actually heard Bull go against Bill on a call last night and say refs got it right. Yes Bill is a homer but I love the chemistry he and Bull have. Bill is constantly throwing Clyde bones in which he never bites. Clyde imo just doesn't get it. More Bull less Clyde
Indeed; I also find Clyde to be unpleasant at times. Bill will say something that's generically pleasant about a player, team or situation and Clyde either doesn't take the hint or - more likely - doesn't care and will answer with something that is probably not as politic as it should be. Case in point: last night Bill said something at the very beginning of the game about the Thunders being a pretty good team and Clyde was quick to correct him 'no, an AVERAGE team' with emphasis on the average. I thought that was unnecessary m'self, as this is a televised show and not a private conversation, no matter what he might think truly. This is probably a weaker example of negative type things I've heard him say that made me go "Did he just really say that?". OTOH, he does say some illuminating things from time to time, like being sure to point out why Ariza and others were missing FTs that normally the players would make - "their legs are rubbery from being so tired and that will throw off your aim". It helped me because I was incredulous myself as to why Trevor in particular (and other players in general) were missing so many FTs. I vastly prefer Bull over Clyde any day.
Bullard complaining about the refs is really annoying. Nothing annoys me more than Worrell talking about a missed/wrong call on the air when the replay shows that Worrell is clearly wrong about it.
I still want Calvin Murphy back. I'll tell you where the Rockets really missed an opportunity though. When Deke retired they should have replaced Clyde and Bull with him!
Bull is awsome hands down... but Clyde gets me agged when we, word for word, repeats what Bill JUST said... to me Clydes ability to remind everyone of Bill Worrell jinxing our free throws is probably his one and only favorite topic!
Clyde is getting to be brutally honest. Like worrell goes chuck hayes can hit those layups and clyde retorts well he is an nba player hopefully he can hit layups. I prefer calvin to bull and clyde. He was very knowledgeable and they were fair to both teams.
I still miss Calvin Murphy. He knew what he was talking about almost always. He was clever and also very objective, in spite of his homerism. Does anybody know if there's a chance that Murph could come back to the telecasts in some fashion....?
Other local commentators from other cities are way more homer than Bill and Bull, we actually have it pretty good after hearing the Mavericks oafs for 5 years.
