Upcoming Free Agency 101: Tell the media repeatedly that your current team is your first choice. They can offer you the most money, and burning bridges early only robs you of your best bidder that can drive your price on the market. See Beltran, Carlos. Tracy McGrady 101: Take 99% of what he tells the media with the biggest grain of salt you can come across.
Exactly why I never bash the guy, the media always has a way of making things looks worse than it is, and fans that don't know any better will follow that assumption.
If he'll return to some kind of good form - 7-8M per year X 3 will be great, but only if we will sign Joe-Joe (maybe by SET, using Ariza) this offseason.
9-10 is what I would sign him for... at that price he is an awesome choice... saves enough money for another under appreciated player which is what the rockets look for anyway...
I still think this team isn't fit for his style of play. Boston plays his style of game, he should sign there to get a ring.
When I read "Money is not an issue", to me that says he will return for peanuts. At this point I still don't know if I want him back, but will find out soon enough.
Except he just might take it. I think he wants to prove he belongs on the Rockets and really does think with Yao back he can win a ring here. He's not dumb - he can see what's happening. He can see how good this team can be. If winning a ring is what he truly desires, than he would do whatever he can to resign here. Seems like that is his thinking.
I think that it is all rose petals right now, but if it becomes more clear the team has moved on, and his style doesn't fit..... He will start to get antsy....wanting to prove he needs a new contract. Right now, he is not that good as an NBA player....he needs time to get his rythmn and timing back...but that time may cost the Rockets wins.... DD
So far we are 1-1. We beat good Pistons team playing without Ariza. Right now, his 8 minutes DOESN'T CHANGE anything. What will happen next? We will see.
It changed the game last night Jeff...... And it costs CBud time on the floor...... And yes, we will see....but right now...he is not good enough to be playing, his lack of footspeed and quickness is a major sign, but I do agree it is really hard to evaluate with such a small sample size. He has to show major improvement over these next few games....in every area, or I think he goes back to being mothballed. DD
I would love to keep him, it's just a matter of if he wants to be a part of the team. I'm all for re-signing him if he stays healthy and becomes a team player.
Why Houston then? Why not sign with either Boston or LAL for the minimum and backup Kobe/Pierce for an "easy" ring. What team wouldn't give T-Mac a chance for the minimum. There's no such thing as the bench being too deep. He loves Houston.
