When Ariza chose his #1 for his jersey number, T-Mac had already given it up for #3, so it was available. T-Mac doesn't want #1 at this time. Why should Ariza give it up when noone else wants it?
before his movie, and humanitarian efforts, i thought t-mac wore number three in reference to his third time coming back from injury to "prove the haters wrong".
I'd like T-Mac to switch back to #1, but he seems to like #3. They could switch jerseys again for next season if they wanted to, but I do not think either would want to give up their number.

The most interesting part about this thread to me is that it reminded me that Francis was number 3. The fact I can remember the numbers of every player on our championship team but I've completely forgotten what number Francis wore says volumes to me about his impact in Houston. What was Mobley? 5?
The only reason I can see that Trevor should give up his number is that Tracy contaimnated it or jinxed it. But nice point about Stevie wearing that number, the Rockets ought to take the number away for the fact that Tracy should be allowed to wear the number of the "Franchise".
