I'm with Howard Dean. Lieberman and company have made this bill substantially worse than it was a few weeks ago, and at this point, it probably needs to be scrapped. It's now the worst of all worlds: it requires health insurance, but doesn't provide the cost controls to make it affordable. It's basically a huge money maker for insurance companies.

The family featured in "Good Times" is definitely a good example of a family that wouldn't have health insurance these days, being forced to take illness to the emergency room and drive up the overall costs again.

Yeah, good times. Mark 2050 as when our heathcare costs are 100% GDP, ... idiots.

I can't help but think of the GARM after a Rockets' loss. Lets trade everyone and tank the season!

exactly, lets make the most of this and treat it as a start. part of the problem is these plans are too ambitious imo. there's no reason to scrap the good ideas. and not just to claim victory, but to get the ball rolling.

For that matter the season is far from over. As others have noted a lot of things can change in reconciliation. Also for that matter if the current bill is scrapped there is a high probability that nothing better will be able to be passed also. I'm not sure what the Dean and other liberals who are calling for this bill to be scrapped expect will happen in the future. If this bill fails I strongly doubt that the Democrats will be able to pick up more Senators in 2010 or be able to replace the Blue Dogs with more liberal Senators.

Nah, I heard that JJ became a community organizer working his way up with a voter fraud organization to get a high ranking guvment gig. The key to his success was updating his catch phrase from dyn-o-mite to hope and change. The Evans family now gets free health care.

[rquoter]To Lieberman's friends and allies -- a diminishing group inside the Democratic Party -- it's Lieberman at his best. He's serving as a great moderator -- in both senses of the word -- and is sticking to his principles despite competing political pressures. Some moderate Democrats argue that Lieberman's efforts will ultimately pull the Obama White House's top priority in a direction where it can receive the broadest possible support. "It's an important service to the country, and I think it's also an important service to the Democratic Party," said Al From, the founder of the centrist Democratic Leadership Council, who has worked with Lieberman for decades. "He's done the right thing. And I really do believe that centrist Democrats -- Lieberman, [Nebraska Sen.] Ben Nelson, and the others -- are, in a sense, Obama's best allies. They may not realize it," From said.
    [/rquoter]

I would give Lieberman the benefit of the doubt and say that he was acting from principal if he hadn't flip flopped regarding expanding Medicare. His positions definatley seem more self-serving and political grandstanding than principal.

exactly, and if you think when you couldn't get this guys to do something now, they're going to do it in an election year, no way

to use another sports analogy, take what the defense gives you

So was Sweet Daddy based on Joe Lieberman. Sweet Daddy was usually nice on the surface but in reality was pretty insincere and undermining.

What do you not understand? There are NO good parts left. As much as I am against it, i'll openly admit that expanding medicare and a public option has its positives, but I don't feel its the best way to handle it. Now that those two are out, there is NOTHING good left.

There are no cost controlling measures. If the uninsured are still required to purchase insurance and insurance companies are forced to cover pre-existing conditions, this will hurt EVERYONE. This is exactly what insurance companies want.

Only the blind party-following liberals refuse to acknowledge this.

What I do understand is that exchanges are good ideas, and eliminating pre existing condition restrictions are good ideas. Thanks
