It would not be my number one choice, but it would make the team a LOT better right now, because he has height, and can block shots and rebound and finish. So, there are three types of trades I like, I will list them in the order I would like... 1. A trade that gives us a potential future all star - even with PPill contract. 2. A trade that gets us a fading all star, but with future picks 3. A trade that gets us an expiring player in a position of need (Camby, O'neal) So the first good deal that comes in and fits any of thos criteria, I would trade him. DD
Can he play it better than David Andersen? No one is saying he takes your guys spot in the starting lineup. DD
IMO Riley's keeping O'Neal. Like he's done in the past he'll go for a win now move but this benefits them in so many ways. It puts them in good position to keep Wade in free agency as well as keeping him happy now. The Heat will have O'Neal and McGrady's bird rights allowing them to re-sign their possible "Big 3" which they otherwise cannot do as they won't have the capspace to allow a "Big 3" to be signed.
I completely agree... My list of overrated players... 1- 2- Richard Jefferson 3- 4- Jermaine O'Neal 5- Eddy Curry/Jerome James
Damn dox, I don't know if that "engrish" thing was spelled that way purposely, to be racist. If not my bad, but if so....well.
Well, I guess I just disagree with you about No. 3. The Rockets should not make a move solely because it could help get a few more wins this season. I don't see the logic in that. The only legitimate reason I'd see for trading for O'Neal now would be if Morey had a second trade in mind for O'Neal, one that he could not make with McGrady.
It isn't quite the value deal we should be looking for, Tmac for O'Neal, since Tmac looks like he'll produce again this year, whilst J.O. is on an even steeper decline. But D. Cook, maybe that draft pick from Miami, that might help.
of course the reception has been positive... the raptors are big winners with this trade... everyone knows bosh is leaving, so to get a up and coming pg in brooks + solid player in scola + tmac = amazing for them... however, i doubt the raptors org. would trade for tmac. very stupid trade for the rockets
A potential JO for TMac swap is POINTLESS. We're going to have to assume that either way, the Rockets are gonna let TMac or JO walk at the end of the year, as they're expiring contracts. There's no point in aquiring JO as a 'one year rental' He'd just eat mins into our already formidable trio, Hayes, Scola and Landry. With JO on board we're not winning the championship this year. We probably don't win it with TMac either, but if TMac can progress and stay healthy, he'd give the Rockets something we lack. A closer. And more scoring off the bench. When it's 15 seconds in the 4th, who do you want to handle the rock creating/taking the last shot? I say a healthy TMac. Plus, as the season goes on, and he gets more mins/shows he's healthy, he could net a lot more than a JO. ...and if worst comes to worst, TMac flames out, goes down once again, no biggie. We let that 23M expiring contract come off the books for OURSELVES
Sorry, but no deal - unless significantly sweetened. C'mon, just dumping McG, which for JO'N is, is silly. What deal makes sense? That's the big big question. But, Golden State - Ellis/Maggette? Minny - Card/Blount/Sessions/Rubio? Jeff/Curry + 3 unprotected 1s? Miller/Deng? Or maybe, just maybe, it makes sense for McG to continue his career in the Toy Shop???
I'm not sure if Miami can acquire McGrady without giving up O'Neal or Wade, or a number of smaller contracts that Houston wouldn't want. If Riley thinks O'Neal and McGrady are the parts for his "Big Three", more power to him. But personally, I don't see O'Neal being worth the large contract he'd expect in the off-season from the team with his Bird rights.
It's either that or sign scrubs to surround Wade in free agency. If they want to re-sign Wade. They don't have much of a choice.
I just saw your trade proposal in the other Heat-Tmac thread: Q-Rich + Haslem + Wright (All expiring) + 2010 1st round pick for T-Mac + Dorsey (via TE) I like this idea. Breaking up McGrady's massive contract into several expirings would probably make it easier for Houston to package them in follow-up trades.
Every time someone puts T-Mac and closer in the same sentence I think of his remarkably unclutch brick he threw against the backboard in the 07-08 playoffs.
