Was too young to play (and actually comprehend) any that came out on SNES. So mine would be FF7

With FF9 (sorely underrated IMO) following close behind.

FF:VI all the way! Glad to see it's ahead in the early poll. Best soundtrack and one of the best villains.

FF7 introduced me to the greatness of RPGs, so it has a special place in my heart. One of these days I will have to go back and play the older games from the snes and nes to see what I missed.

FF7 had by far the best storyline and characters and also introduced me to the series.

FFX. Also my favorite RPG of all time. Unlike for most others, FF7 never really left a deep impression in me.

The majority will always say FF7. I do not mean to dog people that do because it is one hell of a game but...FF2(4), 3(6), and 9 are far superior games in my opinion. A lot of people really liked X which I am curious about because while I beat it I never really liked it all that much. I also never could get 8 going. I also would be glad to give in depth reasons why I choose 2(4), 3(6) and 9 if anyone wants to talk final fantasy! I have been playing these games since I was a boy and with 12 I feel they showed that even with the Enix merge, this franchise is still tops when it comes to rpgs! (oh I forgot to mention that I really liked 12 too. Also I did not mean to spurn FF7. It is still one of my favs and is very worthy of being anybody's favorite because it is an amzing game.)

Loved 6, absolutely loved it and how the world just turned around with the Kefka/Gestahl scene.

I liked 7 a lot, but due to finals and a few weeks off, I got completely lost with an airship and no idea where to go....

I played FFXI for awhile, but the gameplay and the idea behind the level range to level was crazy without a static party.

Blitzball was fun in FFX, but FFX2 kinda ruined it for me.

VII was awesome because it was the first on the playstation and the first to utilize superior graphics. It also had Sephiroth which is one of the most interested video game characters of all time, and Chocobo racing which is easily the best sidegame of all time.

That said, Final Fantasy VII I'm real happy for you, and I'm gonna let others finish singing your praises, but Final Fantasy VI was the greatest Final Fantasy of all time. Of all time!

Kefka was an awesome villain. Just awesome awesome. Shadow is one of my favorite characters in any game ever. Cyan was awesome. General Leo was awesome. The magic system was the best in my opinion. Moogles. The World of Ruin. The depth of the characters, Setzer's dead love, Cyan's dead family, Terra being half esper, the death of the espers, the destruction of the world, Kefka's Tower, the Magic Tower...

I would buy that right this second if they released it on PS3 and I'd pay full price for it.

I love IV, VI, VII, & VIII. I've played them all multiple times. I put IV mostly because it introduced me to FF.

This for every final fantasy after VIII. I never had the time to finish it seemed, and these aren't games you can come back to later and know what the hell you are doing. I so bad want to finish them so bad, but don't get that kind of time to myself.

    Old skool rpgers = FF6

Mid skool rpgers = FF7 (I got bored of it after first disc.)

    My favorite is FFXI.

I always felt that VIII was very underrated. It starts slow, but builds to a great conclusion.

9 was entertaining and well made, but I never beat the boss.

10 was good but I didn't think it added anything special, same for 12. (never actually beat the boss on that one, either)

    I voted for 7.

    What this guy said.

6 is by far my favorite. I like 7 alot but its not my favorite. 2nd favorite for sure though.

I also played FFXI alot a few years ago. But the fact that when you get past level 40, if you dont plan on playing for more than 2 hours at a time, its a waste of time. So that it sort of ruined it for me.

Go back and play most of the old ones. They don't hold up.
I, II, III, and V are all too grindy. They're like current Bulls. It's just Derek Rose doing the same thing over and over again. Blech. V is probably the game that holds up best out of those. Still not great.

VII is all over the place. It doesn't know what it wants to do and just isn't that good of a game if you remove the nostalgia. It's like the Steve Francis of video games.

VI had some good ideas. It holds up better than VII and is less scatterbrained. But it, too, isn't so amazing without the nostalgia. Same with IV. Both games are good, but they still feel old. They're like last year's Detroit Pistons.

VII is entirely unplayable without nostalgia.

IX holds up pretty well. It didn't take many chances, but that makes it work. Still a pretty good game but nothing special.

X sucked. Aside from a little of X-2, I haven't played a Final Fantasy since. Just an awful piece of crap.

blathersby I disagree comepletely. I really liked X. I think my favorite part was the battle system, but the music, story and all was pretty good.

VII is my favorite just because of how epic it was. VI is definitely a great one and probably second behind VII with X being a close third. IX was a lot of fun as well, though seemed a bit simpler.

On that note, where can you find a version of VI? Is the Gameboy the only one? Man that would be awesome on the PSN.
