Being a past military guy I am not to sharp on the civilian side of life. What I am trying to do is find a similar job but I don't know what it would be called or if its not wide ranged enough. But basically in the Navy, I did everything around the diesel engines. Just not the engine. I would remove the engine (overhaul) but then let the REAL mechanic do the overhauling/repairing. Made and hydro tested fuel lines. Replace any needed items (ie fuel pumps, engine stands, hoses, bilge pumps) and whatever else that was usually found around a diesel boat engine. Just didn't do any work on the engine itself. I cant stress that enough because every time I am looking for a better job, that is the one qualification holding me back. What should I be looking for? Navy life is all I knew. Came out trying to get away from being gone from my kids life but maybe I made a mistake. Any of you guys have any ideas?
Like this: Hydraulic Technician A company that specializes in hydraulic lifts is looking for hydraulic technicians to start immediately. Candidates must have experience in troubleshooting hydraulic winches and other types of hydraulic equipment. Candidates will also be building hydraulic power units. Must have experience with diesel engines. Must be able to make hoses using "crimp" machine. If so, I found that in 20 seconds on Monster.com
Kind of old listing but this is on monster: http://jobview.monster.com/Motor-Vehicle-Worker-Job-Houston-TX-US-84253500.aspx I would look for companies hiring diesel mechanics through monster.com, yahoo jobs, texas workforce etc, go to those companies websites and see if other positions are available. I would also go ahead and send those companies - and similar ones - your resume with a cover letter explaining your aspirations.
