to end all debates who is the rockets best point guard that they have ever had. i would have to give my vote to steve francis because, when he was on our team he was our best player and althoug some seen him as a me first player i thought he did well to get others motivated and involded while carrying this team. lock if already posted.
I'd take stevie in his prime. Most athletic, biggest scoring threat, great size to ward off posting up. He's just my favorite to watch in general.. Cassell was good, kenny the jet was great. i like steve tho..
My favorite PG was Stevie. He made even losing basketball fun to watch. I though he was gonna take us to the top, then he was traded. Kenny and Sam are up top of the list, but A.B. and Lowery are coming on strong. I never had a chance to see Lucas or Calvin play, only highlights. Anyone willing to vote for Byrce Drew or Matt Maloney? Not.
...Easily John Lucas, before he and the other Cocaine Cowboys (Mitch Wiggins and Sweet Lewis Lloyd) got the boot and most likely cost us a title.
you can tell the age of most posters with their answer to this question. Calvin was Steve Francis in his day minus the dunking. He was the team leader, the scorer, and the one that stood up for his teammates. Kermit was lucky Calvin was restrained on that night... Calvin played longer and rightfully earned a Hall of Fame nod.
Yeah, but I didn't consider him a PG, he played mostly undersized SG for us....but clearly if he is in the mix, he is the best. DD
Steve Francis was the only superstar-level point guard of this era that we have had. So, I'm going to go with him.
Does Rafer Alston make the top 10? Amongst PGs, he's 6th in career minutes played, 6th in career win shares, 5th in assists, 5th in steals, 6th in points, and 2nd in 3's made.
Hmm I was hoping DD would say V-Span but alas For me the best PG the Rockets have had I would hazard to say either Smith, Sam C, or Steve F because I watched them play! However Brooks is making a strong push if he continues this path for a few years, the dude has it.
1. Calvin Murphy (if you can consider him a point man) 2. John Lucas (before the coke and maybe sometimes during the coke)
I would have to go with Lucas and Kenny Smith. Lucas was one on one better than Smith, but Smith was here and got it done in the play-offs to help win a couple of rings.
1. John Lucas - there simply is no debate here. 2. Kenny Smith - Not much on defense but he was a great mix on offense as the back court mate of Vernon Maxwell. 3. Sam Cassell - He only played a couple of years and mostly as a back up but damn he was good off of the bench and hit some ice cold threes in both championship series. 4. Calvin Murphy - Would be higher on the list if not for the fact that he was primarily a 2 guard 5. Robert Reed - A Forward forced into the point guard role after Lucas was kicked off of the team and Level broke his wrist. Did a great job during the 1986 season helping us win the Western Conference and having to guard Magic. 6. Brooks / Lowery - I am veiwing them as one point guard... because I want to. They would be higher on this list if they had more games under their belt. 7. Steve Francis - He is this high on my list based on stats and potential. He woulld have been much higher but he has what is possibly the lowest basketball IQ of any player to ever ware an NBA uniform. Steve won tons of games based on talent alone, the problem is that he lost more due to his low IQ than anyone. 8. Sleepy Floyed - a less talented version of Steve Francis.
