Spike VGA 2009 (Lots of "Unannounced" Games Intermixed with a Horrible Awards Show)

    The Spike VGA awards show is about to start (7PM Central). Wished I could just skip it this year, but as usual, they'll have a lot of new stuff to show off. Think Keighley said 11+ unannounced games for the show, although I think that was from a few weeks ago (some/most of those games have now been announced).

    Pretty much everyone looks out of place...probably the developers more so than anybody, and they're the ones that actually get the awards (well...except for the awards that went to famous celebrities that happened to be in a video game).

    Could have been worse I guess. U2 getting GOTY is nice, Flower not only was nominated but actually won an award, and there was a Demon's Souls mention (but sadly, it didn't win).

    Wasn't really impressed by most of the trailers, although I missed some of the end of the show. Spec Ops seems like it could be interesting, although mostly because of its scale (otherwise, it looks like just another shooter).

    The new premieres look....meh

    Of course I'm just catching the videos now on various sites, I couldn't bear to actually watch the show just based on my memory of the first one.

    Surprised at the lack of conversation regarding the awards...

    Uncharted 2 getting GOTY is well deserved.

    Only thing that annoys me is that Uncharted doesnt get best action game, but gets GOTY. I understand the desire to spread around the awards, but that just doesnt make any sense.

    If a sports game gets GOTY, then I would assume that the same sports game gets "sports game of the year" as well.

    Minor annoyance.

    I was hoping that Demons Souls would get RPG of the year...but Dragon Age came in with the hype and since it was multiplat, had a much greater following.

    There's no point in discussing the awards really IMO. If there was some respectable selection process for picking the winners, then maybe it would be worth discussing. But it seemed pretty clear to me that they were just spreading awards to all the major games (why U2 would get GOTY, but not action-adventure game of the year), and/or giving the awards to the nominee that would provide for the best on-air performance (e.g., Jack Black) rather than the one that actually deserved it (I think they claim some/all awards were fan-voted, but don't know if I believe that). That...and they had awards like best human male performance (along with best male voice?) just so they could get some celebrity to speak at the show, even if it was via a recording. Then there are things like NBA 2K10 getting nominated for best sports game (and MLB The Show not being nominated), which is just horrible. I like 2K, but 2K10 is a buggy mess right now.

    Then again, I'll admit that I was pleasantly surprised with some of awards, as I mentioned earlier. At this rate, maybe the 2015 award show could be worth watching.
