Of course he wants him to stay. The guy is getting 120 balls thrown to him a year, making Pro Bowls, and has risen to the elite receivers of the NFL all under Gary Kubiak. He knows that the next coach might not have such a receiver-friendly system, so why would he want that?? Come on people, this is Andre Johnson we're talking about....the guy is about as classy as they come. He would never say anything to rock the boat. This is a complete non-story.
I think their are plenty of coaches that would get him that many balls regardless of the offense they run, and even get him more redzone touches to build his status. That being said, Andre is not the type of guy to care about that. I'm positive he would take any coach that made them a winner.
receiver friendly? Andre never complains about getting balls thrown his way. it doesn't matter if he gets 1 ball thrown his way or 20. All he wants to do is win. And I don't think any coach would question why he's getting that many balls thrown his way. He gives the Texans the best chance to win when they need a play. Andre could care less how many catches/yards he has.
I think that is one of the few votes of confidence that might carry some weight with Mr. McNair. Wonder if any other team leaders would privately ask for change?
Andre would never say anything bad about a current head coach. He is too classy for that. This is not noteworthy, fire Kubiak anyway.
This. I fully expected him to be in Kubiak's corner. He won't miss him if we bring in a coach that takes us to the playoffs.
Can't tell from the video, but was AJ answering a question? If a reporter forced him to make a comment like that, then you're right. But if he brought it up himself, then it does show a vote of confidence. Regardless, NFL players should never have input on coaching decisions. Because they don't know enough to make an informed decision.
No, this is pretty much Andre recognizing that if we bring in a brand new Head Coach, along with new staff, we are officially in rebuilding mode, especially if they want to switch the defense to 3-4 again. This would mean AJ is stuck in another team restructuring and thus reduce his chances of ever getting to the playoffs with this team. He probably also knows first hand how close this team would be had it not been for the injuries to Pitts, OD, Slaton, Wilson and Schaub missing most of the first half of the last game. I once again say this, as a coach, Kubiak is pretty good. I honestly think he deserves one more year. Although if I see Chris Brown cost us another game, I don't see how that is possible. Heck, even now it might be impossible due to how epically Chris Brown failed last week.
What is the historical basis for the idea that bringing in a new staff means we are rebuilding? Please cite examples that demonstrate that historically, teams that make coaching changes don't get better, but instead enter a rebuilding period that lasts any significant amount of time. TIA
rebuilding mode josh mcdaniel sean payton mike timlin rex ryan jim caldwell norv turner (with the chargers) i'm sure if i really thin about it i can go even further
Assume We win out and Denver wins 1 more game, NE wins the NFC East there is one wild card spot left. Miami is eliminated b/c we would hold tie breaker Need Titans/Steelers to lose 1 game [should happen] Jets 2-2 or worse [toss up] Balt 2-2 or worse [toss up] Jack 1-3 or worse [unlikely] If this happens than I say keep him, if not your gone buddy still possible though
Only one that had to "rebuild" was Payton. (and technically mcdaniels cuz they moved to a 3-4) But to put Tomlin, Ryan, Caldwell and ESPECIALLY Turner, is a joke. (not that tomlin, ryan and caldwell aren't good coaches, but just had to get my point across)
