You know, in the past that whoever the Rocks pick up is a huge surprise. Someone who is not often mentioned to go as high as the Rocks picked them (Horry, Cassell, Rhodes, Thomas, Drew, Mickey, etc.) So why then would CD mention that they are high on Miles in a public forum? Just a hunch, but I think they've got someone else in mind (if they only get a late lottery pick) someone who pretty much everyone else has forgotten. ------------------
If Darius Miles falls to number 9, that would be a major steal. My opinion is that Stromile Swift and Darius Miles have the highest ceilings of any players in this draft. Their potential is just tremendous. It will be interesting to see if the Bulls take Miles with their second pick from Washington (if they get it). I think they will either take Miles or Alexander with that pick. Here is the profile I wrote of Miles on Draftsource.net: "Darius Miles is a versatile 6-9 SF with long arms and excellent athleticism. He runs the floor like a guard and has an excellent open court game. He rebounds well for a SF and is a very active player that hustles well. Miles has a very long wingspan and plays excellent team defense. He is the type of player that defends not only his matchup but is all over the court creating havoc on the defensive end. Miles also handles the ball very well which has drawn comparisons to Tracy McGrady. He will need to improve his outside shot and become stronger. He has hit the weights since the high school season ended to add bulk to his lean frame. He dominated high school competition by penetrating and dunking so his outside shot did not develop as much as the rest of his game. If he can develop this part of his game, he could be a very special player at the next level." ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
I'm not clear about the draft picture, but why aren't the Rocks working towards moving Cato, Drew, TMass, Thomas(?) or Williams (?) so that they have room to sign a free agent? (?) = not sure the Rocks want to move them I think we really need a center right now, if we are able to draft Swift or Miles, then we could go pick up a steller guard. ------------------ Do not harm little children!
So what happens if one of the teams below us gets a top-3 pick? If say Boston gets in the top 3, wouldn't Cleveland have the #9 pick and we would have the #10 pick, right? ------------------ ?
Dr of Dunk, You are correct, but you are missing the point of Nolen's signature. Nolen's point is more along the lines that the ULTIMATE MOMENT OF SUSPENSE in the lottery is after the 10th pick has been announced (and assuming the Rockets haven't yet been called) the words you want to hear are..... Technically you are correct that if someone below the Rockets ends up in the top three, then the Cavs will be the 9th pick, but you would already know that when they first announced the Rockets got the 10th pick. I think it is IMPLICIT in Nolen's signature that if the Rockets had ALREADY been called as the 10th, 11th or 12th pick in the draft, we wouldn't give a flip about the words "the 9th pick in the draft goes to the Cleveland Cavs". TraJ/Swami, Sorry guys. Just being my usual pessimistic self... things just haven't been the same since Mobley wasn't traded. ------------------ ?
Wow, remember the aged old saying "Don't count your chickens before they hatch". It isn't even a given that the Rockets will have the 9th pick in the Draft. Who knows, the Rockets can be the second team disclosed on Sunday. Yes yes and the 12th pick of the 2000 NBA draft goes to the Rockets ( Now that is a major bomb to the the whole idea of moving up. The only reason Orlando would be willing to trade via Popey's trade scenario is to get Darius Miles. If the Rockets get any worse than the 9th pick, then the Rockets don't have anything too good to manuer with to move up neard the top 4 picks. I've heard a lot of you want the Rockets to get one of the top three picks. That should be the least of your worries. Just hope that the Rockets don't fall below the 9th pick. Because as it so happens to be, a team can get a 1st superstar or 2nd superstar up to the 9th pick. After the 9th pick, there are only role players available. And Like the Doc said, Darrius Miles is a victim of the number and so many early entants into the Draft [of course I paraphrased (the kid has skills)]. Come on K.Martin, Swift, Fiezer, Mihm, Demar Johnson, Mike Miller, Richardson, Darius Miles, and Jerome Moiso. To a lesser extent if fallen to the 10th pick Alexander who would imidiately be traded. The 10th pick isn't the worst however, but Alexander is at best a good role player to a championship calibur team. So you see this Draft does have immense talent. Johnson, Miller Richardson, and Moiso are all sophmores or Freshmen. Darius Miles is a HS players. So, if the above were not in this draft, then Miles ends up being up to the 4th or 5th pick. Miles is a player. And to have a possiblilty of acquiring him is just mind boggling. For Miles to be the worst you can do at the 9th pick just blows any houston fan away! Thus don't sweat it if the Rox don't get luck on Sunday. Worry if they get unluck and don't at least get the 9th pick. The Rockets really want Swift in this draft. When Swift was thinking about enterring the Draft the Rockets were losing games left and right. Then Swift said he was going back to school. Oh, what happened the Rockets suddenly remebered they could win a few games beating the top teams in the NBA. Portland, Utah, phoenix, just to name a few. So, all I'm saying is that before you start hoping to get the top pick first hope that the Rockets are not 12, 11, or 10th. So if the Rockets are not 9th, just look at it as a bonus. Not a priority. That's my take and I'm sticking to it!!!! ------------------
Clutch, aelliott and Juan Valdez are probably basing their position on: http://www.members.home.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#60 Until proven otherwise, aelliott and Juan are correct. If Doc has a position opposite them on this matter, I would like to see him post it. Mango ------------------ Arch Stanton lives! Donate Blood!
As far as the cap goes, I am no expert. I've got a general idea of how the cap works, where we're at, what we can do and so forth but as far as some things go, I don't know the details. Kelvin could be a base year player or a head case player, I just know he's get $42 when it's all said and done. Hopefully, someone else is payin' it.... ------------------ Wait, there is another...
Doc, There is another thread on this BBS about Cato putting some effort into his offseason program. Was the positive spin in the article just to intrigue other teams or do Rudy and CD still have a glimmer of hope in salvaging Kelvin for the Rockets? Mango ------------------ Arch Stanton lives! swami- right on. Thanks for saving me the explanation. ------------------ The ninth pick in the NBA 2000 draft goes to... The Cleveland Cavaliers.
Wow,,, I totally dismissed this thread based on its title alone (two question marks and all). Just now reading it. Wow. What a showing by Doc Rocket. I don't even care if he is "Clutch" in a superman costume. cc.net rox!
Dr of Dunk, I like your handle! Let's keep our fingers crossed about getting lucky and moving into the top three in the Lottery drawing today. Then after next season is over we can have a contest and you can tell us which of the following Rockets players you think best epitomize your handle: Steve Francis, Kelvin Cato or Stromile Swift (all amazing above the rim players). Regards! ------------------
in my opinion kelvin cato is a good center and do his job they only have 2 years in the nba and if we trade him how goin to be or bench center tim duncan remember we dont have so much money to add another good player and the rockets need put cuttino on the linup ------------------ "how sweets it is" the houston rockets are nba champions
just thought I'd bring this thread back up to the top. Reread it, and use everything we know. Think about the pieces of the puzzle fitting together, all the clues. "Understand this though, we MUST get Mobley back! That's a fact!! Then we can 'look for people who want playing time with a great young team...right??" -Doc Rocket Mobley seems locked in. Clutch's "player" would fit this description. I'm sure there are plenty more. Rashard Lewis would work.
