I think that Adelman is a "real time" coach. He is welling to change the lineup quickly. This is a major reason why our team is so successful. He doesn't cater to our stars (if applicable). If they have an off night, he's not afraid to bench them. A prime example is how he is playing Landry a lot more than Scola. Recently he has been closing games with landry instead of Scola. In my opinion, this is a huge statement. Tonight he gave Budinger only about 8 minutes. He saw his shooting was off tonight and decided to rotate the offense somewhere else. He is always searching for the hot hand that night and is always welling to give players a shot. This leads to our players hustling a lot more. They know that if they put the effort they well eventually get there time. What is really important is that he is not afraid to adapt to the individual game, rather than get in a seasonal routine that most coaches do. We always give praise to Morey but don't overlook our coach. Without him this team will be in the lottery.

    Yep, Adelman is awesome.

But I don't think we needed another thread saying this, haha.

I give Adelman an "A" so far this year. Great job! Now that he's the big man on campus, Adelman needs to stay in that position indefinitely no matter who is added to the roster.

adelman has to be one of the smartest offensive coaches in NBA history. hes up there with phil jackson. he makes sure the team never has extended offensive droughts b/c he always sticks with guys who are hot.

I agree and disagree to a point.

We have mainly gone with Landry in the last few games because, not only has he been the hot hand, but the opponents have tried to go 'small' ball with us, putting out quicker and more offensive players, which forces Adelman to choose the slightly smaller Landry. Also, they are not trying to work Scola to much after he nearly got his eye ripped out.

But I do agree Adelman isn't afraid to tell some of our players when they are performing. Although the true test will come when McGrady returns to the line up. Still, a great coach who has used his techniques and eye for talent to come up with game plans by which this team can usually win its games.

Thats true. Its going to be really interesting to see how he handles the Tracey situation. But I think he has been getting Landry to close games before Scola got injured. I really didn't notice it until recently so I'm not to sure.

Put our coaching staff on the Cavs and give us theirs...
Cavs might be right there with the Celts. Rockets would be even with the Hornets

Budinger got 8 minutes today more than he deserved to play. Oof...one of those rookie nights I guess.

I love having Adelman as our coach. For the first time in a while I felt like we had a guy who, while not capricious enough to listen to everything the public would have wanted our team to do, at least has shown enough of an eye for things to make adjustments appropriately. Every Adelman thread I find myself taking jabs at JVG but not intentionally. It's just that the two guys present such drastic dichotomies in style--they were both great coaches but what you had in JVG was a rather rigid coach who forced all his players to adopt his system, particularly defensively, and now in Adelman we have a coach that actually tries to seek out his players' strengths and fit them as puzzle pieces into the larger whole.

I mean, JVG as an analyst now is a perfect example of that. On every play ending in a score he can basically tell you what component of the defense lapsed and was responsible for giving up the bucket, and that implies that in his mind there is a defensive system out there where if everybody "does their damn job" then the only buckets that should be given up are long, contested jump shots. Which is fantastic when you're listening to it because you can tell he has a mind for the game. But what he is missing is an ego, or lack thereof, to admit that perhaps the team would be better served bending the rules a little bit to achieve flexibility. I guess that's the exact same quality that makes Bobby Knight such a great analyst too.

Rick is one of the all time greats.
hopefully he'll get his share of rings before he retires, with the Rockets!

The man deserves some league wide recognition. The man deserves a COY award. For god sakes, how does someone like Mike Brown have a COY award while Adelman, with his impressive coaching stints in Portland, Sacramento, and Houston goes home empty handed at the end of each season? GIVE ADELMAN THE COY THAT'S LONG OVERDUE.

I love how Rick Adelman just makes the best out of any situation given to him. I also love how we still have some JVG flavor (see our defense) and how RA's down with that.

I guarentee after the Rockets next loss, there will be a "Fire Rick Adelman" thread. But yes, I do appreciate Rick, and we should definitely extend his contract or else he will sign with the Fakers after Phil jackson retires. :(

certainly not jerry sloan, not even the zen master. who else? pop? nah...

I will appreciate Adelman if he lets Tmac play. Don't tell me that he already talked to Tracy, but Tracy is the one that doesn't want to play now, because I'm not buying it.

    Strange
I think I've made many of these threads except I call it "RICK THE RULER" appreciation thread.

Also RA = stupid nick name pegged by lazy clutchfans

    Did we call Rudy, RT?
Do people call Phil Jackson, PJ?
    what about Don Nelson? DN?

He's doing a great job this year.

I don't know how it started or who started it but it's obvious a conversation took place over the summer between Morey, Adelman and Les. Rick has taken control of this team. No more trying to please stars in the media or accommodating their self-made schedules (yes, I'm talking about McGrady but also Webber).

This year, he has a plan and the plan doesn't change unless HE decides to change it. He is clearly leading the team and that's a change from the "player's coach" label he has had for years (and one I have never really cared for).

It will be interesting to see what opinions of him are if he gets this team to 50+ wins but a first round exit.
