hey fellas, I had a couple of people approach me concerning Amway. Does anyone know or had experience with Amway? All i know is they have the naming rights to the Orlando Magic's arena which means they are pretty successful. Comments? Thanks.
It is a pyramid scheme. If their products are so great, why do they need other people to peddle it for them? Yes you can make money off the system, if you are a great sales person with no morals. Make sure you don't suck in your friends and family into the scheme unless you want them to hate you.
You don't need them to hate you. Amway teaches you to hate them. If they're not on your side they're on the outside. Very cultish.
I do? I got in that business 20 years ago; I knew nothing about it. It made sense (and still does make sense) on paper, but the reality is very, very tough. It's nowhere near a pyramid scheme like someone alleges. Products in that business model are kind of expensive but that means more income for the participants in the business itself. Everyone starts at zero. Some go great places; some never get off the spot. I surged then stalled then ran out of gas... The products are quite good but not good enough that I still use them even though I'm no longer a part of what they are doing. Actually, King Cheetah, they kicked me out and I'm quite proud of that!! My upline was trying to steal my group and I wouldn't stand still for that.
If you dont mind me asking you this...how is it NOT a pyramid scheme? Just wondering why you think so.
It's a legal pyramid scheme because they have a product behind it. A good article if anyone wants to read up on it. http://skepdic.com/amway.html I would stay away from this. You don't want to be known as the Amway relative, and you will definitely lose friends over this. If one of my friends tried to push Amway on me I'd tell them to GTFO.
Amway is MLM that made it big. Products are okay, but gotta live with exploiting your friends and family to make it.
Virtually every organizational chart under the sun is "shaped" like a pyramid, so trying to shame something by referring to it as a pyramid is kind of toothless. You'll waste more money on one Gucci bag than you would in, perhaps, marginally overpaying for Amway's laundry detergent for the rest of your life. Pick your poison...
in the 80's my uncle and his wife sold amway - they pester all the relatives so much that we all ended up w/ a few amway products in our house and ALL the relatives resented my uncle and his wife for making us buy it - we all hated visiting w/ them b/c they were constantly trying to push their crap on us. ALL the other family members made fun of them for selling amway - it was an inside joke among the rest of the family - they were not respected. same uncle now sells usana (vitamins) - his son is doing it too and is some platinum member or big-shot - they tried to get me to sell too a few years ago and i was pretty clear in my desire to NOT do that, so they never bothered me again.
Its different. If my wife walked into a Gucci store and they tried to recruit her to not only buy a Gucci bag, but to buy dozens of bags and sell them, and to also recruit more people to buy dozens of bags from her and sell them "upline" then it would be similar.
Every relationship should be a two-way street. You give some, you get some. I never felt like Amway gave enough back. In my younger years, I was a door-to-door salesman. I ran into tons of these folks. They would have a hazy look in their eye like religious zealots. Not one of them bought a thing from me, and I sold newspaper subs at a really low rate- this stuff sold itself. I later dated a girl who's father was in Amway, and he tried to rope me in. Again, no give, all take. Bottom line- there are way better business ventures out there to put so much time and money in to. If a relative came to me and gave me that tired old Amway pitch, I would shut him/her out. On the other hand, if there was some legit business plan he could show me that he needed money for, I would give him the time of day.
I was only referring to the discussion of products. I find their products on the expensive side, but my point was that lots of people spend even more money on all kinds of products-- just meaning to deflect that particular criticism. BTW, you image of garaging products is just not accurate. Of course, anyone could operate their business that way but it is not required and it is not even necessary anymore. Way back in the early 90's Amway went to drop-shipping products directly to the customer, so there is no need to garage products.
