He would be a FA next year though, and the Astros have always gotten rid of expensive closers, so it would seem unlikely.
i wonder if part of the trade would be locking him down for a few seasons? just throwing stuff out, honestly....
I am praying that the deal is Lee(Please waive your no trade clause for a chance to win)+fillers for Lowe and Soriano lol...I know wishful thinking lol
It works for both teams. Braves need a power hitting OF and Lee fits the bill. Lee makes a little more than Lowe over the next 3 years. Lee won't waive his no trade clause though.
Randy Wolf just agreed to terms with the Brewers and could sign LaTroy Hawkins by the end of the day. Cards signed Brad Penny and could sign Tejeda to play 3rd. The division is getting better.
Astros set sights on Rafael Soriano http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bb/6761227.html He then conceded that in a recent exchange of names, there is a club that does think highly enough about the Astros' players discussed to have a match if the clubs decide.
Good move by Stros if they get it done. Rafael Soriano is better than José Valverde and you don't have to sign him to a multi-year deal plus you get 2 draft picks when Valverde signs with another team. Good move by Ed Wade. I just hope they don't go another year with Geoff Blum as the starting 3rd baseman.
$8 million for Soriano would be a mistake if the team could have had Hawkins at $4 million or possibly draft picks if they had offered him arbitration.
Why didn't Ed Wade trade Valverde instead of letting him walk for nothing? Sure we get draft pick(s) for letting JV walk, but what good is it if you don't sign them? I guess we shall see....
We have no way of knowing what deals were available. If you didn't get high end prospects, the picks are more valuable. The Astros signed their top picks last year.
Angels, O's no longer pursuing R. Soriano. Astros and others still in. http://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/6505202502
I will say that if we sign Soriano and we stink he is probably gone by the trade deadline for prospects which would be ideal however knowning uncle D it might take us being down 20 games or something for him to pull the trigger.
MSN can celebrate lol.... Brewers, LaTroy Hawkins Reach Agreement By Tim Dierkes [December 9, 2009 at 1:30pm CST] 1:30pm: Rosenthal says the Brewers have an agreement with Hawkins, pending a physical. 9:48am: Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel tweets that the Brewers are looking at reliever LaTroy Hawkins. Bob Nightengale of USA Today does him one better, saying the Brewers are "moving fast" on Hawkins and "could sign him today." Hawkins, 37 later this month, posted a 2.13 ERA in 63.3 innings for the Astros with a 6.4 K/9 and 2.3 BB/9. He earned more than $3.5MM for this efforts. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/12/brewers-eyeing-latroy-hawkins.html
Agreed - this seems like a circular route to deal with a problem that we already had a relatively easy, cheap solution for.
From JJO Twitter(I can't post tweets from my work computer) says Stros interested in Matt Lindstrom from the Marlins, someone please post tweet if they can.
Rosenthal also says Rays and Stros battling it out for Soriano...again can't post tweets so someone please confirm. I wonder if its both Lindstrom and Soriano or just whichever team agrees first to trade their guy.
