Yay! Fellow workaholic. I just finished a 36 hour work shift. I was told I could leave around hour 24, but I stayed around just because I enjoy my work and the people I work with.
Never did an all nighter. I usually drank during finals week, and always made sure I got 9 hours of sleep before my finals. It really didn't worry about them. I think that is the key. Don't stress.
I haven't pulled an all night in a while. But Ive learned to just study late everyday and you'll be fine. I mean why stay up alllllll night for one night cramming dead tired, when you can study to like 1am 3 or 4 nights in a row and still get an adequate amount of sleep. I Just took an anatomy test yesterday and still have two more FML. That class and my organic chemistry is no joke. Ughhhh I hate finals.
The best work schedule I ever had was 3 days on and 4 days off. 6 AM until 7 PM Thursday, Friday, Saturday... nothing but 4 day weekends. Oh it was glorious. I'd do it for the rest of my life, but sadly shortly after I left they went to normal 5 day again.
Some people slept for an hour or two in an empty cube/office. An hour or two doesn't really do anything to me, so I just kept at it. Sad thing was, I had a Metropolitan Suite at the St. Regis Hotel that night in San Francisco that I didn't even get to use.
Do you do this by choice or because you have to? Currently a finance major, and just wondering... Thanks
I work in finance. Commodities trading. At around hour 20 I usually feel tired, like my mind wants to shut down, but then when you realize you just have a few hours left, my adrenaline kicks in and I don't feel tired anymore. Thus I stayed around well after I could have left. I did sleep about 9 hours that night. I usually can't sleep more than 4 hours in a row anymore though. But I do take a naps in the middle of the day if necessary.
Because I had to. Our expert report was due that day (Monday), which was supposed to be at noon, but ended up getting pushed back till midnight, which sucked. I graduated with a finance degree, too...from UT in '07. This is what you have to look forward to!
Yep, I am pulling one too. Finals suck. Hard. 12 finals in just over a week. Micro/Immunology in the morning. Thats gonna suck. Hard. Then sleep for a few hours and repeat. Pharmacology on Friday morning which is also gonna suck. Hard.
When you guys post about working in finance and trading...what exactly is the tangible work that you normally do? Is it the fact that, if assigned to foriegn markets, you must work when those markets are functioning? I assume this is all part of the "working 100 hours per week" deal for a couple of years before promotion/MBA. Please, expand.
sucks man. that's a beautiful hotel. got one of my other damn red light tickets trying to pick up my ex-girl there. the cars that come through there were ridiculous. so you kinda missed out anyways, i'm on my 2nd all nighter tonight. i hate all-nighters and procrastination, but i still do them.
