Should've never traded Rudy Gay. Morey never would've never made that trade.

That's supposed to make us feel better by saying the Rockets would have somebody else like Reddick possibly? LOL

I think it was the right move, but so far it proved to be a bad trade. The only accepted outcome of the trade should have been a Rockets championship. Morey has until next year to prove us wrong. I actually have some faith in this.

Gay's an inefficient chucker who never met a shot he didn't like. All he does is throw up off-balance contested jumpers, and gamble for steals/blocks at the expense of team defense. We're much better off with Ariza at the 3.

You don't understand how important Battier is to the Rockets.

He is what makes the team.......a team!

He is a leader and that is more valuable than a little more scoring.

    wut.
Is this the same kind of thinking that goes that we gave up way too much for Ron-Ron since we didn't win everything?

Why are you writing in the present tense when those numbers are from last season? Isn't there data available for this season?

I can assure you I dont care about that guys blog and I can assure that Rudy Gay, gets me plenty of boards, blocks, and steals. The guys has averaged a steal and almost block per game in his young career. An if he played on a team like ares you better believe his team D would be looking pretty good

AK I think you should read what actually occurred during the trade.
The Rockets had B.Roy as their first target but after the Blazers picked him the Rockets were going to draft Thabo but instead traded the pick which the Grizzilies wanted it to be used on Rudy Gay plus Stromile Swift.
So even if the trade dissolved we would now have Thabo starting at the three instead of Battier. Sounds to me like we didn't lose out on the trade.

It still pains me to think about that day....Shane is obviously on the downside of his career now...The Tmac/Yao experiment failed, and Rudy gay is on his way up....We fuked up, but live and learn...Shane has intangibles, which I would take over 20pts @ 50% shooting anyday...

NO we didn't give up are lottery pick for Ron that trade doesn't even compare. Rudy Gay was arguably the best college player in the nation that year. He also was the best player on the best team in the nation that year.

....I know jack about college sports in general, but so? Who cares what he did or did not in college? I understand Adam Morrison was an excellent college player and now he's the Lord of Scrubs.
Honestly, I would argue that even if Gay is a superior player to Battier right now (and I don't think that), I would still keep Battier. One guy observed that throughout the last season, the Rockets had 4 guys who led them - Deke, Yao, Artest, and Batman. Only Battier's left, and the Rockets do need veteran leadership, particularly something as skilled and intelligent as Battier. And that's not even getting into getting rid of Swift.

That said, I stumbled across the Clutchfans archive, and the initial reactions to that trade are pretty hilarious in hindsight. It really does show how pathetic our PF situation was that we actually viewed trading Swift as a bad thing.

Seriously, just because Rudy has a good game doesnt mean we should revisit this thread everytime... Shane has been nothing but good for us and I don't think we would have been as sucuessul without him. His defense, leadership, and hard nose play is what the Rockets have needed the past several seasons. This is ridiculous to keep bringing up.

Don't be offended every time it seems like someone is defending battier, thats not always the case...here the OP obviously didn't know what he was talking about, whether you like shane or not is irrelevant, fact is Gay is not as good of a defender like the OP suggested, has nothing to do with the trade or battier or houston.

Like i've said before, i understand the stats part of it, but i also like to know how can a gauge be accurate when talking about a 21 yr old with a high ceiling vs a 27 yr old flat liner. I guess i think about it this way and i always brng up the example of the spurs or even the lakers. I think it would've been a easy way to just keep antonio daniels as the starter and trade the rights to tony parker based on the immediate production. It wouldve been easy to trade for the hof player and finished product in kidd vs the upside of bynum. Its impossible to tell using stats to say if rudy or the 8th pick wouldve been enough to help the rockets vault further based on the player playing on a veteran, stable team. I'm pretty sure that even if shane is the better defender, if he was in memphis, like now with houston, his defense isn't as big of a factor. There are some that say rudy wouldn't get 16 fg att, but there is also a thought that the 13 quality shots he gets would be golden. There have always been room for a quality, high % fg scorer during the tracy yao era, but on the same note we never had a player of those capabilites to do it.

1.) Having a guy like gay with such potential would've been a waste on the rockets roster since we were trying to contend for the title with Yao and T-mac. It would only hinder his growth if he only gets 15-20 mins off the bench.

2.) Stat has proved that Rudy is the worst defender in the NBA despite his blocks.

3.) Are the Rockets a better team if they didn't make the trade? The answer is HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL NO. Players like Yao/Shane/Chuck bring more than just on court activities. They are like the perfect role model to learn for younger players name Carl, Budinger, Brooks, Lowry.... Yao is always the first one to enter the gym and the last one to leave the gym. Shane's probably the best Team Defender in the entire league. I am sure he has taught many different things to our young players throughout the years in the red. Chuck's Chuck.. nuff said. Without these role models, I would highly doubt that Carl Landry/Brooks would develope into such fine players. You can tell Carl is a work horse just like Yao as he developed many weapons over the course of his short career. Brooks would've never learn how to take a charge. Look at the Wizards, they have 3 guys who can explode on any given night but they have been label as bottom feeder for the last couple of years already. On the other hand, the Rockets have been quite consistent with playoff for the last couple of years despite playing in the Tri-state battleground. Therefore your statement is not just unproven, but it's basically non-sense.

For you to have a post like this means you haven't consistently follow the Rockets for the past few years and your lack of basketball intelligent. If you have you would've noticed the intangibles that took this team to many dogfight against top dogs like the Lakers, Spurs, Utah.... etc...
