www.realgm.com/src_fromtherafters Don't know if this has been posted and a poster like durvasa is great at posting stuff. Even a old head like myself find some of the new stat stuff interesting. A couple of rox on the list with luis topping all rockets players.
actually, i posted the wrong yr. http://www.realgm.com/src_playerrankings.php?season=2009-2010&filter=Regular+Season&highlight=
So, Memphis has 3 of the top 50 players according to this ranking, two in the top 20 in fact, yet they still suck.
Something wrong with that ranking. Kobe is only ranked 15th and Duncan is only ranked 18th, while David Lee is ranked 6th and Nene is ranked 13th. I don't think Nene and David Lee are better.
If you read about the effect vs salary is how the value is worked. I didn't post it to show mkemphis players ranked in the top whatever, i just posted it to maybe shed some light on guys outplaying their contract.
Do they explain anywhere how they compute Floor Impact Counter? That looks to be the key measurement.
Yeah, i guess if you read the player notes at the bottom. Hey, you're the stat dude, not me. I just did it because you've been slackin lately
Here are the notes: Ranking Notes FIC: The Floor Impact Counter (FIC) used here is modified by RealGM's Christopher Reina to give more value to assists and blocks, differentiate between offensive and defensive rebounds (offensive being more valuable) and slightly reduces the value of missed field goals and free throws. FIC40: The Floor Impact Counter (FIC) adjusted over 40 minutes. RV: The difference between a player's deserved salary based off the Floor Impact Counter (FIC) and actual salary.
Google answerd my question: http://realgm.com/src_fromtherafters/138/20080109/the_reina_value/ FIC = (Points+ Offensive Rebounds + .75 Defensive Rebounds + Assists + Steals + Blocks - .75 Field Goal Attempts - .375 Free Throw Attempts - Turnovers - .5 Personal Fouls) For a comparison, here's Hollinger's Game Score, which I've used now and then as a quick summary statistic: GmScr = (PTS + 0.4 * FG - 0.7 * FGA - 0.4*(FTA - FT) + 0.7 * ORB + 0.3 * DRB + STL + 0.7 * AST + 0.7 * BLK - 0.4 * PF - TOV)
Reina's stat puts more value on rebounds, assists, and blocks, less value on scoring. After that, some minor differences.
Does not seem to be much of a difference between the 2. I think both metrics are primitive compared to whatever Morey and other GMs are using. The reason is that someone like Morey has so much more data to work with, things like deflections, true assists, hockey assists, making the right rotation. These things are all charted internally, at least with the best statistical organizations, and people like Hollinger have no access to such data. One thing I would like to see from Hollinger or whoever is an adjustment factor for pace. That's something they can do with the data they have.
Ehh I'm not really sold on Reina value. She was way off on some of her predictions, including how Bayless is the 3rd best guard in his draft and how Joe Alexander was going to be a future allstar...
