<Another theory is that black slaves were bred to be strong, and the genes have carried through.>

It would take longer than the 400 years of forced labor to breed "inferior genes" out a population. It is very hard to completely remove a gene from a particular population.

<For the evolution theory crowd, supposedly we evolved from apes.>

Not true. The theory is that humans and other great apes have a common biological ancestor. Basically that they are distinct branches of the same tree....not that humans are descendants of other great apes. Cousins is a better comparison.

I have heard of people of West African descent have more "twitch" muscle fibers but I haven't really looked into that so I couldn't say.

Of course, the one-drop rule is just blatant racism. It implies that "white" is purity and "black" or any color is contaminant.

It really does....but, unfortunately, it is a rule that society still follows for the most part.

Back in the 70s, The University of Houston was playing Notre Dame. ND had a backup center from San Anontio named Gilbert Salinas. He came into the game and Al McGuire remarked "That's the tallest Mexican I've ever seen". After the commercial break, he apologized for his comment.

and its a rule based on society's perception evem today. the question answers itself, why people of mixed raced between black and white considered black. because that's how people perceive them and there is really no better answer.

you're right, its based on a negative concept, but that's just how it is.

I remember reading an article somewhere that broke down the genetic factor. Scientists identified a gene that was supposedly a predictor of athletic prowess, the results were that the gene was most prevalent in blacks, less prevalent but still existent in whites, and almost no existent in Asians. That is a good explanation for why black people are dominant in athletics.

It's just too bad for Asians, we have to stick to being good at precision athletics like gymnastics until the Chinese government completes their genetic engineering project.

    6'4">5'10"

I'm no Redick fan, but I think that if McAlarney belongs in the NBA he'll show it on the court.

Nature vs. nurture--the argument continues. The opposite statement can be made for professional baseball. Why are there so few African Americans in professional baseball?
    No se.

It only mentions white American players that lack size or athleticism.

This year out of draft came Psycho-T, Chase Budinger and you have a lot of white American players in the league like Troy Murphy, Mike Dunleavy, JJ Redick, Coby Karl, Brad Miller etc.

One thing in common, they all have SIZE AND ATHLETICISM required to play in the NBA. I guess undersized African-American players have an advantage in terms of genetics and in general.

It isn't about the talent, you don't see black guys playing tennis, cricket or driving in the F1 or NASCAR. It's about work, work, work, work and little bit of luck.

thats interesting. my psych prof (white guy) made an argument that asians are the most evolved race thus less physical dominance and more intellectual dominance. needless to say he got flamed by the 6 black kids in my class. but i can see his point. in todays world brain power trumps physical strength but thats based on stereotypes even tho stereotypes exist for a reason. ive met plenty of stupid asians and intelligent ethiopians.
my father thinks it has to do with environment. warmer climates call for a need of more physical strength to survive and colder climates need more thinking and analyzation to survive. if u think about it the most brilliant ppl come from colder areas.
asians i feel are only lacking in the height dept. most are quick and fairly durable. as far as hops i think theyre like whites so bla ck americans dominate in that area (prolly due to the slave trades and genetic breeding mostly).
just mix everyone up and there will be a slew of unstoppable smart players.

Well, you're right. But you get my point, it isn't about the talent, race, religion, nationality in professional sport. Its about hard hard hard hard hard work

White people in general have more slow twitch muscles and Black people in general have more fast twitch muscles.

Most endurance or slow pace sports in general (cross country/marathons/swimming/baseball/offensive line & quarterback of football/Tennis/Golf) have more white (exception Kenyans & Tiger(mixed)).

Most athletic sports in general (basketball, short-medium distance track, Running backs and receivers of football, baserunners of baseball) have more black. (exception Budinger)
