The only time he was soft were during the 14 total minutes he sat out during the playoffs. All of his numbers jumped from the reg. season to the playoffs. He is right, the rest of the team SUCKS!!

Yes they were talking about him not stepping up in the 4th quarter and taking charge of his team during the games against the Mavs. KG is a good player, a very good player, but he is not a capable superstar, he needs others to set the table before he can eat. DaDakota
nothing much to say about the topic, kg is the man and i completely agree w/ what he said in the interview... but you mean to say you would've conducted the interview more "maturely", and would have respected him had he done so, especially considering the fact that you admittedly "aren't that way"? kg's bein himself, what's sad is that ppl lose respect for him cus he doesn't try to put up a bull**** facade like everyone else does... if anything, he's risen in my eyes... still have a hard time believing he'll cash in for 300 mill though, insider's more often than not sensationalism to entertain its readers.
I think KG is all that but he ain't worth all that. Only two players in this league could sorta justify that kind of money and that is Shaq and Duncan. Those are the only two guys that you can put on any team including the Cavaliers, Warriors, and Grizzlies, and make them be playoff contenders with a shot at the finals.
How many capable players are there? Your definition of superstar is a bit exaggerated. Jordan needed Pippen (as much as I hate the guy) Shaq needs Kobe Hakeem didnt need anyone because he is the man.
you're can't castigate kg for not living up to the standards set by perhaps the game's greatest center. and kg does plenty of "eating" without anyone setting the table... just because he can't lead a team of "dwarfs" past the third or fourth ( the seed they usually are forced to face ) seed in an extremely tough western conference( meaning third or fourth best in the league--something hakeem never really had to face... haha and you really can't underestimate the value of role players, calling them "dwarfs"--one or two stars surrounded by the right players *cough* bulls *cough* would run all over your average "all star" team ) doesn't mean ****... only so much you can do, you know... he "can't be your superman".
The math in that article is wrong on several counts. 1) Raises are not compounded anually. Whatever 12.5% of the first year is - thats the raise in every following year. The amount doesn't change. 2) He would have to become a FA to sign for 7 years. if it an extension then the max length is 6 years. 3) The first year of the extension can be no more than 105% of the previous year since it already over the defined max. The last year in his current deal is for $28 million. Year 1 - $29.4 Year 2 - $33.025 Year 3 - $36.65 Year 4 - $40.275 Year 5 - $43.9 Year 6 - $47.525 Total = $194.775 million The extension will take effect in his 10th year in the league and a 10 year player can get no more than 35% of the total salary cap OR 105% of his previous year (just like Webber last year). The author of that article knows almost nothing about the CBA but who cares about facts and truth when you want to write some sensational story that everyone will talk about That said - I think DaDakota is probably right. No other team would have money to even be close to Minny's $29 million - so technically Minny doesn't have to give that to him either. If he balks at a paycut and tries to leave he'll lose even more. KG and McHale will have a sit down meeting with all the numbers in front of them. Garnett HAS to realize that it's HIS salary that is crippling that team from making itself better and surrounding him with talent. If he wants to make more than the $13 or so mil another team can offer in '04 then he'll agree to an amount that is workable to both him and the team. I would think a deal starting around $16 mil and growing by 10% yearly would be suitable - but it all depends on the line drawn in the sand. He'll already have made $126 million in his first 9 years so if he gets another 6 years / $100+ mil, but actually has a chance at being on a contending team - he'll take they pay cut.
That's a sick statement of sports in general. With all this news about labor stoppages in baseball and lowered attendance ratings for all sports in general, I hope 22.4 million is still considered overpaid (at least for the rest of KG's playing career) for a player who killed whatever chance of getting good teammates but can't win anything in the playoffs on his own.
The Timberwolves have some problems. Chauncey Billups is leaving. They must forfeit two more #1 picks (2004 and 2005). Their point guard is put together with masking tape and prayers. It will be interesting to see if KG will take a paycut. As good as he is...despite the crowds he draws...the contract we're talking about is grotesque, and would destroy that franchise's ability to compete. Maybe it's good we didn't trade for him (although I can't imagine how much you give up for such a marketable player).
