It appears that Houston is out of the running as of now. It's down to Dallas and Austin, even though she's not too excited about the Austin job for a reason I want to ask MadMax, or other attorneys, about. If you offered someone a job, would you be upset if in the course of that candidate making a decision, he or she visited other firms?
A job search is a match-making process. Both sides must be confident that they have made the best match possible. A 'mature' firm would recognize that people who understand the importance of accepting a new job need to consider ALL OPTIONS. I have never been put-off by people needing more time to assess their options. I would be more concerned if I sensed that they did not consider all opportunities so they can select what they really want. It would be painful to lose employees after only 12 months or so. (Disclaimer: I am not an attorney)
If a law firm gives you a hard time about going on other interviews, then they aren't the type of people you want to work for.
really??? that's awful, RM95!!! i can't imagine being upset if we were interviewing a candidate and he/she were looking elsewhere too. how arrogant is that??? she's a free agent! she's allowed to look around! even AFTER she gets the job!
It appears to be a big misunderstanding, but I understand RM95's Girl's concern. What if she feels in a couple of years that this isn't the place for her...will they freak out then? She doesn't want to take it, but the problem is, if she doesn't get the Dallas job, she's going to be 2 weeks away from the bar without a job, and without any interviews. She's not sure she wants to do that. Now, would y'all work for someone who sets up an interview 4 hours away, right in the middle of the bar, then doesn't even show up to the interview after you've driven the 4 hours?
