What if China backs out and doesn't let Yao come to the states to play ball after all? What if they find something they don't like in the deal and decide to back out? Maybe I am misinformed, but I have heard that even though the promises have been made, there hasn't been a WRITTEN agreement that allows him to play all season, either from the Rockets or from China. IF (and I stress IF) China backs out, then our draft pick is essentially a waste. Any ideas on a plan for the Rox if this happens? I hope and pray that it doesn't, I am very excited about the upcoming season...
Huh? When was the last time the Rest of the USA cared what happened to Houston? Is "us" against the Rest of the World!!!!
According to yesterday's Chinese media, Eric Zhang said Rockets will sign Ming to contract very soon. He said that they are still finding the interpreter for Ming. http://sports.sohu.com.cn/73/10/sports_news164611073.shtml
According to yesterday's Chinese media, Eric Zhang said Rockets will sign Ming to contract very soon. He said that they are still finding the interpreter for Ming. windandsea: I don't know where you find all of this stuff, but I'm glad you do! Is Ming ever going to come to Houston before October just so he can do the whole media thing (hold up a Ming jersey, address the media)?
The closest Yao will get to Houston before November is Indiana for the World Championships later this summer (September???).
What if a meteor hit the earth and destroyed everything???? If China tries to pull something, it will be the last time a player from China gets a whiff of the NBA regardless of skill or talent. The Chinese realize that it would be a PR nightmare if they were to try something stupid. The Chinese want desperately to get onto the world stage of pro basketball. If they played hardball with Rockets about Ming, it would set them back decades.
Jeff, I was under the impression that the WC were over by mid to late Oct and Ming would be available for a week or 2 of preseason.
Man, I'm glad for windandsea, this guy gets us the best stuff. Although it's been said before, thanks, windandsea: we're glad you're on the board.
The reason I ask is, I am Chinese, and members of my family from China change their minds more often then Kelvin Cato drops a bounce pass...Most times, they can't agree on anything. I only hope that it doesn't happen with Yao. If a meteor does hit the earth, I hope it lands somewhere near Shaq's arthritic big toe...
All information I have right now at china side, including local TV news, talk show, local media (some media is sponsored by goverment like people daily), Internet are all lead to positive -Yao Ming will sign the contract under the agreement and go to Houston right after the world championship. Another thing I would like to share with all you is the recent news about Wang Zhizhi' "defect" story. Apparently Wang is in trouble now and It is no doubt this will bring some negative impact to Yao Ming. However Yao has 2 things different from Wang thus I am quite sure Yao won't step into the same standoff like Wang did: 1. Wang is a Chinese PLA soldier which makes this thing some political factors involved 2. Yao' IQ is far beyong Wang. Yao is a "cunning" guy playing very well with local administrative, media and he has the skill the copy with those "ugly" beaureau very well.
I couldn't not think of a better place except maybe into Peter Vescey's mouth... Either way no damage to the earth. Shaq's big toe would cause the meteor to bounce back into space and Vescey's mouth would surely swallow it whole.
Yeah, and most of the caucasian girls I date, and most of my caucasian guy friends are the same way. What's your point?
I'm sure most of the girls you date, and most of your guy friends don't have a 7'5" basketball player that is the best thier country has ever seen either. And, they don't have the hopes of an entire city hanging on the contingent of their best player leaving their country to gain worldwide popularity too. If you are dating any women like that, I am impressed!
Well, your argument was based on the fact that you and your family is Chinese, and that you cannot agree on anything, yadda yadda yadda. So did this behavior JUST START when Yao got drafted into the NBA then? But hey, I digress.
Rocket fans would go thru the typical stages of loss. 1) Denial 2) Anger 3) Depression 4) Acceptance 5) Insanity
Amen, amen, and again I say Amen!!! There's no point in worrying about it. If it happens, it happens. It would suck, but I think we would still kick a lot of ass.
