Lopez is pretty much universally hated by this BBS, cougar or not. He does well with the older crowd, obviously. I listened to his afternoon show on 790 because it was the only sportsradio I could get on my iPhone... listened for this entire summer.. my god... the guy laughs at his own jokes, loudly... keeps rehashing un-funny jokes, which he can then laugh at again... he constantly talks over his co-hosts and interrupts them... he never stands by anything he says... he has weak, at best, knowledge of pro football and baseball... average, at best, basketball knowledge... I just can't believe he has a job, really.
I'm not a big Cougars fan and I couldnt' stand listening to Lopez well before that incident. If you think people just started to dislike him recently then you haven't been paying attention. He always tries to be controversial just for the sake of trying to portray himself as 'edgy.' That's horrible radio in my opinion. I haven't once listened to him and felt like I learned something. I thought he was a horrible writer with the Chronicle, and I think he's horrible on the radio. His 'schtick' is not funny.

790 continues to show that they are serious about becoming the top station in the market. I will now be listening to them in the morning and the midday. Matt and Adam are my favorite duo of all time and while I've never heard Matt Thomas do radio, I can't wait to hear what he brings. In the afternoon, I'll stick with Sean and John. While it may not seem like a big deal, the name change to Sports Talk 790 is huge. The Sports Animal jumped the shark for me five minutes after they announced that would be the name of the station. It just seemed juvenile and to be honest, it doesn't make any sense to me. I don't understand what a sports animal is.
I hated Lopez long before the Sumlin incident. He is a terrible radio personality and I don't understand why producers actually like him. DonnyM basically summed it up.
I agree 100%. Lopez is seriously one of the biggest biased blowhards out there. Has absolutely nothing to do with the Sumlin incident... I'm talking about disliking the guy back when he was a newspaper columnist. Serious douche. I'm sorry PointForward, but I think the fact that both of you are aggie homers is making you biased. You know he writes and contributes to texags right? You cannot tell me Lopez is not biased for and likes the aggies.
I have found that Rich Lord has been off the air for a few days now. Did he get fired or is he dead or something?
I'm not a huge fan of Lopez, but I don't hate him here like a lot of posters do. I actually think the combination of Vandermear the straight laced-good guy commentator, and Lopez the controversial pot-stirrer, makes for interesting radio. I've actually begun switching the channel in the morning when 1560 starts talking about college football since I'm not that big of a fan.
OT: Was listening to 610 this morning which was a mistake. Lopez starts spewing something about when you drive a car but [he] drives a truck, and your cell phone beeps but [his] phone says "Droid", I was wondering if he was trying to brag or something? Is driving a truck and having a Droid a baller thing?
I've only heard him sparingly, but I've heard at least 2 or 3 occasions where he has bragged about having a Heismann vote. So I'd say that bragging is part of his persona.
Normally I don't have a problem with Lopez, but I couldn't help but say "WTF" this morning when he suggested that Bobby Bowden would find another coaching job because Bowden's a coaching lifer. C'mon, man. :grin:
Are you serious? Look, everybody is going to be liked by some people, but the majority of the bbs has hated Lopez for a long time. Long before he was at 610. His idiotic Monsters of the Midday stuff was trashed on this board routinely. What don't people like about him? His radio voice, the way he laughs at his own dumb jokes all the time, how arrogant he gets about his opinions, the way he tries to elevate his stature by talking about his "rep" or the people he knows, his consistent effort to try to act like he's just an amigo from the streets, his beating stories to death (a la Jim Rome but even less funny)... I don't know, do I need to keep listing reasons?
Ridiculous? Yesterday morning, I actually had to change the station from 610 and vowed never to listen to their morning show again. Why? All Lopez did was argue with Vandermeer and talk over him. Lopez is an annoying blowhard who thinks he knows everything about everything and he just talks louder and louder when someone disagrees. he interrupts callers, is arrogant and has a grating personality on the air. It amazes me that he has an audience. I tried to give him a chance...but I have found that hearing his voice just puts me in a bad mood
