Ok although the stros have won 5 in a row, this season has been a dissapointment. Williams hasnt brought jack to the team this year. Dierker only got fired b/c he set such lofty expectations that he could not reach. The Stros had an All star cast this year, and williams hasnt brought out anything of them. Dan Duquette was martyred last year for firing ol Jimy. Now look what the Bo-sox have done this year. They are sure to lock up a playoff spot. This is because old stodgy Williams isnt around. He cannot and does not relate to the players. We should have opted for Carl Everett instead. While being a headcase, he certainly did excellent with the Stros when he was with them. The only place where he played well was in Houston, while sucking it up in Beantown and the Rangers. GM's have let go of 8 coaches this year already, Jimy should be #9.
this is the wrong time to be calling for Jimy to go. not after winning 10 of the last 12 or whatever. the way things are going its highly probable the season is salvaged and we win the division (if there is no strike). if we are 8 games out with 2 weeks to play then ill agree with you. the astros have about 14 games coming up with the cubs pirates and brewers. im willing to bet my life we are in first place after those 14 games.
Let me get this straight? It's Jimy's fault that he missed Wade Miller for a couple of months. It's Jimy's fault that Shane Reynolds and Dave Mlicki, two reliable veteran starters got injured and because we aren't the Yankees and called up our ready prospects last year we are using a makeshift rotation? It's Jimy's fault that Craig Biggio and Jeff Bagwell haven't produced up to their expectations. It's Jimy's fault Bagwell came into the season with a bum shoulder. It's Jimy's fault Daryle Ward hasn't hit for power like most baseball experts thought going into the season? We have underachieved, no doubt, but these reasons are a big part why, and none are really Williams' fault. Granted, some of his moves have backfired and his handling of the bullpen/lineup at times early on and still can be weird, but talk to Bobby Cox and how he's getting the most out of a makeshift bullpen and retreads Julio and Matt Franco. Also, you don't hire someone and then fire them 3 months later in a profession like baseball, where a season is 6 months long. The exception is when an interim manager gets axed or an existing manager on a bad club is now working for a new GM. Furthermore, most all the Astros seem to like playing under Jimy. You don't fire a guy 3 months in, who has the respect of his players, especially on a team with the veteran talent of Houston. Likewise, firing a manager who has his team as hot as Jimy does is incredibly stupid. Plus, we are only 5 games out in the NL Central with the Cardinals who need a pitcher even more than we do with the tragic loss of DK, to catch. It can and will be done. I believe. Overall, I don't think Jimy is perfect, but no one is, and with the team getting back in the playoff race and liking him, you do not fire him 3 months into his first season on the job, in my opinion, especially with the myriad of injuries and other issues the Astros have dealt with so far.
The last thing we need right now is a coaching change. We are playing great right now. Woody Williams is about to hit the DL, so the only reliable arm for the Cards is Morris. We are slowly creepin up. Things are looking good for the astros right now.

No. Now is not the time to fire Jimy Williams. Not only because the Astros are winning and are finally playing with some sort of consistency, but because it's just too early. Cut Williams a little slack; he has made some stupid mistakes in the past, but he has just recently gotten a good feel for his players and what they can do. Likewise with the players getting accustomed to him. I'm still not sure if I like his quick hook mentality when it comes to starting pitchers (however, the bullpen has been pitching well so I'm not complaining), but overall I think he's doing a pretty good job. It's not necessarily Jimy's fault that the Astros' hitters couldn't consistently hit the side of a barn, much less a baseball, during the first half of the season. Likewise with the injuries to some of the Astro starting rotation.
Given all the adversity the Astros have had to weather, I'd say he's doing a standup job. (And with the addition of River.... )
was it dierkers fault that astros couldnt hit off kevin brown , tom glavine, or greg maddux? dierker belongs on the field, and williams deserves to go to a retirement home.
