NEW YORK-- The Associated Press is reporting that the New York Yankees and Houston Astros have completed a deal that will send outfielder Shane Spencer, closer Mariano Rivera, and Triple-A outfielder Marcus Thames to Houston in exchange for outfielder Richard Hidalgo and set-up man Octavio Dotel.. Rivera, blew a save on Sunday by surrendering 6 runs to the Cleveland Indians, all in the ninth inning. Rivera has a 1-4 record this year along with 22 saves and a 3.00 ERA. He converted 17 consecutive save opportunities before blowing a save on Friday against the Indians. The Astros also recieve outfielder Shane Spencer. Playing most of this season in a platoon with John VanderWal, Spencer batted .236 with 5 homeruns and 24 runs batted in. Octavio Dotel is believed to replace Mariano Rivera as the Yankees closer. Dotel, 28, pitched in 45 games this year and compiled a 5-3 record with a 2.41 ERA and 3 saves. Spencer and Rivera will be available for Houston's game Monday against the Pirates. Dotel and Hidalgo will join the Yankees Tuesday in Toronto. ] ]WTF ARE THEY THINKING?!?!?!?!? credit to davidvauthrin for chat...
Assuming this is true, and nothing else happens trade-wise (like, say, Wagner getting traded for a CF or a SP), then......... ..... WHAT THE **** IS HUNSICKER THINKING?!!?!?!?!? PLEASE KILL ME.
DrewP: I've searched everywhere on espn.com & the only place where I can find the trade is with the link. Where did you find it exactly?
I got it from david vauthrin who got it from chucklesG which is nowhere to be found., It appears to be a hoax.
I am David, and neither this link nor hoax was generated by me. Some guy came to me and asked why we traded for Rivera, knowing beforehand I'm an Astros fan. I asked Juan, because in our sim league i traded for him. He said no Mariano, I asked for a link and said are you serious. He provided a link and i was in great shock. And yes the trade looked odd. So I starting searching links for the trade and no major publication verified it. Others in chat pointed out my findings before I did and I agreed it was either a hoax or Hunsicker is trading Wagner. I just wanted to make this post so nobody thought I made up this insane rumor to get attention for myself as it was presented to me by a guy in a chatroom and i responded in clear shock.
I will vouch for DV. He is someone with a lot of character and integrity. He is never the type to post something to get attention or try to pull a joke on someone. I have to admit that the link looked real and it had me fooled.
we will find out on moday ok. Any way mabe he wants us to be a pitcher dominated team. Like The d backs.
david, I wasnt trying to BLAME you for the link or anything I was just saying where I heard it from and where you heard it from... a misunderstanding.......
I'd imagine so. It's not on ESPN's page (or any other media source, which it should've been by now if true) and the main domain for that link above is www.itgo.com, a site registered under Freeservers - not exactly ESPN. At first, I figured this was an old thread like the one brought back up in the Hangout about Sosa coming to Houston. Oh well.
If this is bogus, then this thread should be destroyed immediately. I wish somebody would have verified this link prior to posting it.
raven lunatic, you must cleary be insane. even if the trade were real, it would benefit the astros. dotel is decent, but definately no rivera. rivera is a guaranteed first ballot hall of famer. hidalgo certainly has not lived up to all the hype or his paycheck he receives. spencer would be an more than adequate replacement for hidalgo.
