Why in the flying F's name is Shane Battier on this list? He's a nice guy, but definitely not a top 50 player.
tracy is a highly talented player that is non debatable. as is yao when they are healthy. and they are both currently employed by an nba team Today. lmao it didn't say top 50 non injured players.
Think about this. Against the Clippers yesterday, the key adjustment that turned the game in our favor was switching defensive assignments and putting Battier on Baron Davis. Of course, after the game we're talking about the guys who scored the most points. A classic example of how steady, solid defense gets overlooked. You tell me: was it his "niceness" that made this work, or his basketball ability?
Is he a top 50 player though? With T-Mac and Yao not playing, this list would imply that Battier is now the best player on the Rockets. That... does not seem right.
You're right. I wouldn't put him in the top 50 now, though in previous years that may have been true.
He is arguably one of the best, if not the best perimeter defender in the game today. However, in a league where offense is so glorified... he just doesn't seem to mesh well on that list.
we switched battier on davis and brooks on butler. i noticed that on tv. but adelman did it because he thought aaron couldn't contain davis or he wanted to lure them into the delusion that they had such a huge mismatch on aaron?
This list is supposedly composed of so much variety thats being fans of a team cant really be partaken here. I think Mayo and Gay do deserve to be on this list btw.
Kevin Arnowitz (ClipperBlog) gave very good insight into this last night: http://clipperblog.com/2009/12/02/houston-102-clippers-85/ [rquoter] Rick Adelman makes a fascinating adjustment in the second half. He assigns Shane Battier — who spent the first half guarding Rasual Butler — to guard Baron Davis, and switches the diminutive Aaron Brooks onto the 6-7 Butler. Even though there’s nothing remotely postal about Butler’s game, the mismatch is too delicious to resist. The Clippers send the ball into Butler on repeated possessions in the opening half of the third quarter. Butler picks up a couple of field goals, but the more profound effect of the cross-match is a disruption of the Clippers’ inside game. With a longer, more cerebral defender on him, Baron isn’t able to penetrate, and simply entry passes into anyone other than Butler become more difficult. [/rquoter]
whoa, good find. thanks for the info. that answered the ? i've had since last night. if that was true, adelman was a genius and dunleavy was fooled. was wondering why they didn't post up kaman more often. but it gets me thinking, maybe tonight we should use hayes to guard ellis?
lol. yeah i was watching the clippers broadcast last night and heard that crap. those announcers are some of the biggest homers i've ever heard.
Maybe because of something like this? He is prone to mental breakdowns from time to time. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/NQtRXQpZHHg&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/NQtRXQpZHHg&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
